Horror Talk / Re: Iced (1988)

I've never watched the whole movie, I've seen bits and pieces and seen plenty of people discuss it. I want to watch it, but I'm trying to hold out until (hopefully) it gets a bluray release. While I grew up in the VHS era, I do find that picture quality can factor into my enjoyment of a movie.

Horror Talk / Gingerclown (2013)

The movie looks very polished but falls way short of its potential. The creatures are mildly entertaining but they're not good enough to overshadow the terrible acting by the lead actors.

Have you seen Gingerclown?

I don't think I've ever watched this with my full, undivided attention... which is funny because I actually have it on bluray.

He's not that bad of a director overall, he's made his share of bad movies and overall he's nothing more than mediocre, but his movies definitely receive more criticism than they deserve... but thanks to his ego, he became an easy target.

I was looking back on some of his old, controversial video updates and they do provide a good laugh.

Such as, failing multiple times to crowdfund his movies:

I first bought it on DVD back in 2002 and own it on bluray but it has been a LONG time since I actually watched it. I remember it being about a 7-8/10 but I need to watch it again before rating it.

In fact, they are remastering this movie again for a new bluray release soon.

When the site gets a little more popular, your ratings comparison score is going to be wack for people who end up rating some of the same lesser known titles like this one because I imagine most people will give them lower scores even if their thoughts on the movie aren't that dissimilar to yours.

It's not an issue if that's how you want to rate them, but I think it's worth considering that when people rate more and more movies, the algorithms I have created will result in the website to be less likely to recommend your reviews to those people because it will detect that your scores are quite different to theirs and assume that you enjoyed those movies a lot more than they did.

Once again, you can rate the movies however you want, I'm not trying to make you change, I just want you to be aware of how it may affect your similarity scores with others and you may also encounter the same thing with other new functions that I continue to add to the website.

It's interesting to see everyone's different interpretation of a 10 star rating scale. You gave it a 7/10 and still called it average to slightly below average.

I would've thought a 7 would be considered above average since that would translate to 3.5 / 5.  [*odd*]

Horror Talk / Neon Maniacs (1986)
March 09, 2018, 02:05:04 AM
Neon Maniacs is not a particularly good slasher movie or monster movie, but spliced together it makes for an interesting view and I think this would actually be a good candidate for a remake.

Have you seen this overlooked 80's monster/slasher movie?

Scream Factory just announced that they are releasing this movie for the first time on bluray in June.

I think it's the ending that gets me the most. If it had a different ending, my movie rating would probably change drastically.

Horror Talk / Prom Night (1980)
March 08, 2018, 01:04:15 AM
The characters are developed a little better than most run-of-the-mill slasher flicks and this boasts a relatively young but strong lead in Jamie Lee Curtis. Also worth mentioning is the record it has held for the longest slasher chase scene in the history of film.

Did you enjoy Prom Night?

Sometimes, at least here in Australia, movies like this you can get brand new on bluray for the equivalent of around $5 USD if you hit JB Hifi sales at the right time.  [*laugh*]

If I re-watch and like it enough, I'd probably grab it at a bargain bin price but I surely wouldn't pay a lot more than that for it.

Been a long time since I've watched this one but from what I remember it was somewhat entertaining. Probably a 6-7/10 from what I remember but I'd have to dust off my old dvd and give it another watch before I rate it fairly and possibly consider if it's worth upgrading to bluray at some point.

Other Movies / Mortal Kombat (1995)
March 07, 2018, 07:01:28 PM
Mortal Kombat is a decent example of how to translate a video game to the big screen. While it does have many flaws, it remains a fun and nostalgic experience for those who grew up with these video games.

What do you think of it?
