Horror Talk / Bone Tomahawk (2015)
« on: October 26, 2018, 10:12:31 AM »
The last half hour is rather exciting with surprise attacks, gore and finally some focus put on these maniacal cavemen. Despite the enjoyable latter parts of the movie, I didn't find it to be great enough to make up for the long ride that it took to get to that point. Bone Tomahawk is a decent watch, but I'd probably struggle to get through another long ride just to experience that final half hour again.

What did you think of Bone Tomahawk?

Horror Talk / Mandy (2018)
« on: October 12, 2018, 10:39:30 AM »
Mandy is a movie not like many others. It has a very dreamy (and eventually nightmarish) aura about it, and in a way it can come across as being a little pretentious with its drawn out, artistically shot scenes that may not have been completely necessary in the grand scheme of things. It starts off slow, which felt like it went on a bit longer than it should have before turning into a violent ride in the latter stages.

What are your thoughts on Mandy?

Horror Talk / Double Daţe (2017)
« on: October 01, 2018, 11:54:37 PM »
Double Date has a fairly good presentation for a low budget movie which is carried mainly by its cast who do well but falls short of any breakout performances. It has some giggles and a couple of crazy scenes, but as a whole it's only an okay movie.

What did you think of this oddball horror comedy flick?

Horror Talk / Image of new Chucky doll released for the Child's Play remake

What do you think?

I knew it wasn't going to look exactly the same but it looks similar enough for me to not have any major gripes with it. I think there's something sinister about being ginger though and this one looks more brown than ginger.  [*hehehmm*]

Television / The Purge television series
« on: September 19, 2018, 10:32:25 AM »
I noticed this is on Amazon Prime, so I was thinking of giving it a go even though I rarely watch TV shows, I'm more of a movie guy. The Purge movies were okay, I guess.

Has anyone else seen the TV show or have any thoughts on it? I might give it a go on the weekend.

Horror Talk / Upgrade (2018)
« on: September 19, 2018, 10:10:57 AM »
Upgrade is a funky new take on those retro sci-fi thrillers, and to me, it had a bit of a Blade Runner feel to it, but on a much more limited scale. The pace of the movie is good, the acting is fine, there's some decent violence and it has a really good ending.

Have you seen Upgrade?

Horror Talk / Mom and Dad (2017)
« on: September 17, 2018, 11:44:23 AM »
Mom and Dad is a movie with an interesting idea but seemed to run out of steam half way through as it pads itself with a lot of nonsense scenes and overdoses on annoying chase sequences with sped-up framerates.

What do you think of it?

Horror Talk / Hate Crime (2005)
« on: September 17, 2018, 11:02:37 AM »
Hate Crime is a movie that doesn't have any scenes that are all that memorable, and is likely not worthy of more than a one-time viewing by most people, but for a movie with limited violence and a fairly low budget production, it succeeds well enough.

I wasn't checking it out to see gay sex, I swear. [*uhoh*]

Horror Talk / The Predator (2018)
« on: September 13, 2018, 11:13:25 PM »
From start to finish, the movie is a wild ride. There's always something going on with action aplenty. However, the movie takes too many liberties with its use of CGI. The first half feels like a movie and the second half feels like a cartoon at times. It's an okay movie that would have benefited with more featuring of the traditional Predators than this new ultimate Predator which is made up completely of CGI.

What have you got to say about The Predator?

Horror Talk / The Nun (2018)
« on: September 06, 2018, 10:26:59 PM »
Littered with formulaic scares laced with unenviable amounts of CGI, it seemed to be trying too hard to manufacture scares and general creepiness. I hope this is the beginning of the end for The Conjuring universe, which has run its course in my opinion. As much as it hurts to say, if you're in the mood for a scary nun movie, I'd be more inclined to recommend Sister Act 2 than this movie.

What have you got to say about The Nun?

Horror Talk / Terrifier (2017)
« on: September 04, 2018, 02:49:52 AM »
Terrifier is an extremely gory and violent slasher flick with essentially no plot or character backstory which aids in the complete depravity of the character and of the movie itself. As a slasher movie, it's an amazing watch but it does feel a little empty when you realise that you just watched a bunch of people get cut the fuck up with no real reason to show for it. I know that slasher flicks generally have very simple plots and backstories, but they usually at least have one... this one doesn't.

Have you checked out Terrifier yet?

Horror Talk / Garden of Love (2003)
« on: September 02, 2018, 01:48:00 PM »
Despite its shortcomings with its limited range of acting, Garden of Love is a movie that has been made with a lot of... well, love. It's not exactly for the faint of heart. There's a lot of gory and intensely violent sequences and they even manage to throw some clown-masked killing which wins points from me as I have a fondness for clown related horror.

Has anyone else seen this gory ghost flick?

Horror Talk / Among Friends (2012)
« on: September 02, 2018, 03:14:19 AM »
Among Friends surpasses the minimal expectations I had for it. I found myself to be quite invested in the unfolding events, though the movie never really ends up evolving to anything spectacular. Kane Hodder was hilarious in his two quick scenes and that really elevated what was ultimately an okay movie.

Anyone else check it out?

Horror Talk / Cut and Run (1985)
« on: August 28, 2018, 03:53:15 PM »
Cut and Run is an entertaining flick which has pumping 80's action theme music, some gory kills and Michael Berryman jumping out of nowhere on multiple occasions like some sort of crazed jungle slasher. If you were always put off by Cannibal Holocaust because of its disturbing aspects of cannibalism and rape, Cut and Run is the perfect alternative as it doesn't really have much of that stuff.

Have you ever had the chance to see this action/horror jungle flick?

Other Movies / Sleeping Beauty (2014)
« on: August 26, 2018, 12:32:33 AM »
If Rene Perez (who brought us the Playing with Dolls movies) had a bigger budget, with more accomplished actors, better costumes, effects and all that stuff, I think that he might actually be able to pull a half decent movie out of his ass some day. But until then, his movies will continue to look like made for television, fan-film hybrids and Sleeping Beauty is the epitome of that.

Anyone else had the displeasure of watching Sleeping Beauty?
