Playing With Dolls (2015)
Review by Bradley Frohloff

5 / 10
Before watching this movie, I noticed that it has been hammered quite hard on the internet. Its current IMDb rating is 2.4/10, and maybe this has lowered my expectation of the movie so much that I've come to the conclusion that it's not that bad. Of course it isn't a good a movie, but there are some good things about it.

The mask design for the killer has left us with a really cool looking slasher character. The movie begs for more backstory or information on him, though all we know is that he is from an insane asylum and is being controlled by a man who seems to be involved with making snuff films. The movie is obviously quite a low budget production with its variety of amateurishly unknown actors and squeezing whatever is left out of Richard Tyson's career. Despite that, the movie is shot rather well. Shots and angles aren't daring but are practical enough and there are some nice locations used for the filming of the movie.

The movie does pad with some unnecessary scenes to make up its running time. There are too many instances of the killer, for no reason, popping up behind someone and walking off in the opposite direction. I guess they needed something to try to scare the audience considering there is an hour long gap between the kill at the beginning of the movie and the next one that takes place. Don't fret, the cool looking killer is always lurking around to at least keep your attention.

The ending to the movie is a little underwhelming but If you go into the movie with low expectations as I did, you may just come out of it feeling that it wasn't a complete waste of time unlike most other people on the internet.
