I went into this movie with mediocre expectations and unfortunately, it didn't even live up to those. The opening scene isn't exactly mind-blowing, but I felt it was probably the best part of the movie. What does that mean? The movie only goes downhill from there. Littered with formulaic scares laced with unenviable amounts of CGI, it seemed to be trying too hard to manufacture scares and general creepiness.
Aside from one wise-cracking role player, the majority of characters in the movie are quite bland and uninteresting. There really aren't any scenes in this movie featuring The Nun which top anything you've already witnessed in The Conjuring 2. And although it's pleasing to see the movies intertwine with one another, it wasn't exactly the most difficult of feats to accomplish.
I hope this is the beginning of the end for The Conjuring universe, which has run its course in my opinion. As much as it hurts to say, if you're in the mood for a scary nun movie, I'd be more inclined to recommend Sister Act 2 than this one.
