Damage (2009)
Review by Bradley Frohloff

I haven't seen every single movie which features Steven Austin (the wrestler) as a lead character, but I have watched a bunch, and I can say without any reservations that Damage is the best of the bunch. Austin, as an actor, has a very limited range and his role in this movie fits perfectly within those limitations as an ex-con who is trying to make amends for the wrongdoings of his past. Walton Goggins, who has since starred in much bigger productions, is a strong supporting actor and also excels in his role.
There are enough fight sequences spread throughout for those seeking testosterone fueled mayhem but there is also a surprising touch of humanity and emotion that is often absent in movies that center around grown men beating the shit out of each other for money. Damage is not going to be in line to win any oscars and my score is a little higher than it really deserves from most people, but I believe that it does overachieve in multiple aspects for its intended audience.
