Horror Talk / Re: Best Horror Films of the L...

Thought I might as well post some favorites from 2018 to 2021 *shrugs*:

2018: Apostle, Kill Game, Killer High, The Strangers: Prey at Night, You Might Be the Killer

2019: Midsommar, Recovery, Sea Fever, The Banana Splits Movie

2020: Run, The Hunt, The New Mutants

2021: Fear Street: 1978, Fear Street: 1666, Howard's Mill, Malignant, Wrong Turn

Both 2020 and 2021 were rough - I've seen 17 horror films from each of them, and so few stand out in a positive fashion.

Another movie that I have seen a couple of times before but have never been in the best mood to give it an honest viewing. I'll have to watch it again some day soon.

Seen it yet, brah?  [*laugh*]

Admittedly, I've not yet seen Possession, but the fact Sam Neill is in it has long been a point of interest for me.

Just finished In the Spider's Web (2007).

All-in-all, this was decent. Still below average, but it had a few good characters, an okay story at times, and rather realistic spiders 95% of the time. Not a movie for those afflicted with arachnophobia, but overall, wasn't a bad rewatch. 6/10.

Drag Me to Hell (2009) - I love this stupid fucking movie. It's so goddamn hilarious!

Possession (1981) - I heard a lot of good things about this one and it didn't disappoint. It was very over the top but it's also very surreal and psychedelic. I can't really compare it to anything but I highly recommend for anyone who hasn't watched yet!

Invitation to Hell (1982)

Not to be confused with the 1984 Wes Craven film of the same name, this 41 minute short was directed by Michael J. Murphy. It's rather low budget, and the quality is pretty poor. Performances weren't that great, but there was at least a solid kill, being a crucifixion of sorts. I'd really only recommend it to fans of low budget British Satanic horror, though. 4/10.

Blue Demon y Zovek en La invasión de los muertos (1973)

Known in the USA as The Invasion of the Dead, this Mexican zombie movie was slow. Admittedly, I have seen this before, but not with subtitles, so it was nice to understand more of it. Even so, not great. 4.5/10.

Watched Hansel & Gretel Get Baked (2013)

Not as heavy on ridiculous comedy as you might think, which was a positive. Even so, it's not a particularly memorable film, aside from the mildly interesting plot. Below average, but not terribly so. 6.5/10. (Full review available in a year and a half or on demand. :P)

There's only a couple of TV shows I watch at the moment, mostly Better Call Saul, which is on it's final season.

Fantastic show, and personally, I think when it ends, I'll enjoy it more than Breaking Bad (the show this spun-off of). Quality mid-season finale episode.

I know how you feel. When I first joined, I was an idiot kid who spent half his time in the trashcan, or whatever that section was called. It's amazing just how many memories I have of this forum and the people here (which is one of the reasons I try to stick around and do what I can).

Glad to see you pop in though, Seed (if you don't terribly mind me using your old screen-name). It is nice to hear that others do occasionally think back on FE - gives me a nostalgic feeling.

Hope that you're able to find a job and/or money lying on the ground. Life has been somewhat trying for me recently also - my mother will likely be dead in the next month-and-a-half, and I just left my job - so I certainly hope that things pick up for you.

I thought this was a bit overrated. I'm a huge fan of the character, and Phoenix was pretty damn great as the Joker but my issues don't stem from the acting performances.

I feel a Joker origin story done in THIS way is pointless. Bruce will grow up to be Batman, and when he does, Joker will be like 60-65 years old. The best incarnations of the Joker are when he can both torture Batman mentally and scrap with him physically. This Joker, even at this age, is relatively weak, and while I get he caused a riot, I see this as the character's ceiling. The only way they could salvage this for -me- is if they go the route of this origin story being a complete lie told by the Joker. The same way Ledger Joker kept lying about his scars, and the same way Joker has said in The Killing Joke, "if I' going to have a past, I prefer it be multiple choice!" but I don't see them thinking that far ahead since they have already casted a Joker for Robert Pattinson's Batman to square up with.

TL;DR, by the time Batman is old enough to be Batman, Joker will be too old to fight him, therefore it feels pointless to me. Before anyone brings up Nicholson's Joker, I had the same issue with his Joker. There were at least a handful of actors from back then I would've preferred were given a chance over Jack.

Joker 2019 feels like an incel remade The King of Comedy wearing some Joker-colored lenses. There was solid acting, beautiful shots, and a handful of memorable scenes but because I don't foresee a good payoff to the story, and because it doesn't feel all that original, I give it uhhhh

6.5/10
