I just can't stand these movies honestly.

From 2000 up, Hostel is about the only good horror series (aside from Saw), and it perhaps one of the finest horror flicks in the last 15 years.

First is certainly a solid flick (and, not to mention, has a funner end). I could easily see the first two Hostel's being interchangeable. Shame they completely pissed on these two with the third, though.

I think it would have been better if it had been done at least twenty years earlier, and without Arnold. But I'm a picky guy. [*laugh*]

Horror Talk / The Slumber Party Massacre (1982)
July 27, 2018, 03:53:45 AM
A low-key slasher classic, there's not that much to really say about this film. It has some decent gore, fun nudity, occasionally interesting characters, and moderately enjoyable kills. It's a quick-paced flick, one to pop in, grab some snacks, and enjoy. Nothing too deep, The Slumber Party Massacre is an early 80's flick that does what it needs to, nothing more, nothing less.

Horror Talk / Hour of the Wolf (1968)
July 27, 2018, 03:51:08 AM
Vargtimmen (or Hour of the Wolf) is a Swedish classic that consistently gets high ratings, even today. As a psychological nightmare, it's certainly a solid film. But as a horror movie that one goes into for enjoyment, it doesn't quite stand up. Hour of the Wolf is a Bergman classic, and it's probably worth a view, but if you're not that into experimental films, or movies that don't have much cohesion, I might recommend something else.

Horror Talk / Re: Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010)

So true. When I think of this film, I still feel it's "new" (three years or less) - utterly amazing that it's close to being nine years old.

Horror Talk / End of Days (1999)

This movie is probably fine if you're generally into this kind of stuff, but after seeing it twice, I just don't dig it. Far too much action thrown in, in my view. Might be a good viewing if you like Schwarzenegger, but otherwise, I don't really see how this would appeal to anyone.

Horror Talk / Hostel: Part II (2007)

While the first movie is pretty good already, the second Hostel expands a bit on the torture organization, and keeps the gore strong. Despite a few subplots and characters I didn't care for, I thought that this film was pretty strong.

Horror Talk / Buried Alive (1990)
July 21, 2018, 04:32:34 AM
Because it's a television movie, Buried Alive is pretty tame, all things considered. Still, there's a very solid cast here, which makes the sometimes hokey story a lot more enjoyable. This isn't an amazing movie, but I do think that it's very serviceable, and would certainly recommend it for a rainy night.

This isn't necessarily a bad flick, but it's paper-thin plot doesn't really do much for me, and the excessive nudity, while occasionally fun, doesn't add a whole lot to the story. Kudos to the director for the more creative portions, and the controversial ending is certainly unique, but this film strikes me as one that you need only see once.

Have you any thoughts on this Dustin Mills' flick?

Horror Talk / The Manster (1959)
July 19, 2018, 12:02:18 AM
While not amazing, I think this flick (despite the horrible title) is actually pretty serviceable, in terms of how well it does for the era. There are much better late 50's horror movies, but The Manster is pretty competent in most of what it sets out to do. It's held back by a few too many chase scenes, though. Otherwise, it may well be worth a watch.

What did you think of this late 50's monster (dare I say manster? [*no*]) movie?

Horror Talk / Don't Breathe (2016)
July 18, 2018, 11:40:19 PM
Despite a lot of hype when this came out, I don't think this flick is that amazing. Is it a good way to spend an hour and a half? Sure - there's plenty of tension and a few gross-out scenes to keep your attention throughout. But is it worth much more than that? Not in my view.

What did you think about this hyped horror flick?

What's the issue, Dorkus? He just wants to be involved in the information we were talking about. [*hibaby*]

Horror Talk / Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010)
July 14, 2018, 02:58:01 AM
If you the horror-comedy type, you really can't do wrong here. Likeable characters, a surprisingly deeper story, and some damn good gore, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil is certainly an enjoyable watch.

Horror Talk / House of Purgatory (2016)
July 13, 2018, 05:09:32 PM
This flick takes a somewhat used-up plot and really breathes some life into it, giving us a pretty interesting and enjoyable final product. While the biggest problem is the ending, which didn't really make much sense, it's still a film I'd recommend giving at least one go, because I thought that this stood out well.
