Horror Talk / Hellraiser: Inferno (2000)
September 24, 2018, 02:30:37 AM
The fifth Hellraiser film takes an entirely different, far more psychological approach, on the series. Honestly, despite the Cenobites looking just as bland as they have for the past two films, it doesn't as negatively impact here as it did before. The story is somewhat interesting, though nonsensical at times, and none of the acting is subpar (though as this is a straight-to-video movie, perhaps that could be excused), but having seen this multiple times, I still have some fun with it. Controversial opinion, to be sure, but I think Inferno is a better film than both Hell on Earth and Bloodline.

What are your thoughts on the fifth Hellraiser movie?

Horror Talk / Filth to Ashes, Flesh to Dust (2011)
September 23, 2018, 01:35:12 AM
Filth to Ashes, Flesh to Dust isn't the worth way film to spend some time on, but it's not something I'd go out of my way for. Sure, some of the gore is decent for a low quality flick, and it carries with it a somewhat deeper message than you might think, but the story is just repetitive and somewhat tedious. Not terrible, by any means, but nowhere near good.

Have any thoughts on this slasher flick?

Never knew this was being remade, especially since they had a new one just last year. Is there going to be two Chucky series going on at once, the remake and the story continued from Cult?

Either way, I hope that this will be better than the Poltergeist remake, but let's be honest - it won't even reach close to what the first three movies were able to do.

Horror Talk / Re: Terrifier (2017)

Holy shit, that clown freaked me out. Dude, I'm glad I watched that sober, because if I was high watching that movie, there would be no way I could have gotten past that pizza diner scene. What an amazing performance.

Great gore also, some of the best I've seen in a while.

Not much of a plot, and no background given, but this was a pretty strong movie.

Horror Talk / Re: The Boy (2016)

I saw it to little fanfare (when I went to the theaters, there was something like only twenty other people there in total), which is a bit of a shame, as it's certainly not a bad movie. Might not be that great, but certainly not bad.

Horror Talk / The Boy (2016)
September 19, 2018, 05:20:02 PM
Some portions of the film meander a bit, but overall, I think that this film is both atmospheric and moody enough to entertain most audiences, and the strong performances of the main characters certainly helps pull The Boy together.

What are your thoughts on this newer horror flick?

Television / Re: The Purge television series
September 19, 2018, 11:02:10 AM
Never seen it. I don't even know if it's a direct spin-off from the movies, or if they take place during the same Purge as just the first one, or whatever.

Continuing to make Purge movies alongside a series of the same name would be somewhat confusing, I would have to think.

I mean, as long as you're adequate on the team, I can't imagine your weight really mattered much. That said, if it's purely for self-improvement, go for it.

My life is pretty boring at the time. I wake up, go to work, come back home, watch movies, listen to music, smoke weed, maybe read a bit, then go to sleep, and repeat.

Not that I'm complaining too much - at the very least, I'm saving up money little by little, so maybe this time next year, I might almost have $3,500 to my name.  [*hibaby*] [*laugh*]

Horror Talk / Re: The Exorcist (1973)

The one scene that really creeped me out was the spider-walk, which wasn't even in the original version (from my understanding), so I'll need to be sure to find the right one before re-watching that one.

I saw Exorcist II four years back, or so, though, and I just couldn't believe how bad it really was. Blew me away, almost.

So, I've only seen this movie once (way back in 2009), so I'm hoping that when I do see it again, it'll do more for me than it did the first time I saw it (which, at the time, I felt the film was around average).

I guess we'll see. [*uhoh*]

Glad you get a lot of enjoyment out of this movie, though. [*thumbsup*]

Horror Talk / Night of the Blood Beast (1958)
September 18, 2018, 12:06:53 PM
This late 50's entry is rather slow-moving, and despite occasionally somewhat atmospheric scenes, there's just not enough here to really warrant loving the film. For a dark and rainy night, Night of the Blood Beast might be okay, provided your options are limited, but otherwise, I'd recommend grabbing something else off the shelf.

What are your thoughts on this late 50's film?

Horror Talk / Re: Last of the Living (2009)

It just hit me that the movie would probably work best in an almost party-type environment. The film has some obvious downsides, but I think it's fun enough to bypass most of those.

Shocking, almost, from a country like New Zealand. I just sort of expect anything from that part of the world to be less than decent. [*hehehmm*]

Horror Talk / Last of the Living (2009)
September 17, 2018, 12:02:02 AM
Despite some problems, such as the fact the film runs a bit longer than need be, and a somewhat unsatisfactory conclusion, Last of the Living is a decently fun film with fun characters. If zomedies are your thing, I don't see why this New Zealand flick, even with it's lower production value, wouldn't do it for you.

Have you any thoughts on this zombie-comedy flick?

I wasn't too thrilled by the trailer that I saw, so I'm not at all surprised that the reaction seems rather lukewarm.

Shame you didn't like it. I certainly agree most of the kills aren't memorable, but other factors certainly leave a positive impression of the film in my mind.
