Television / Re: Last TV Show You Watched

There's only a couple of TV shows I watch at the moment, mostly Better Call Saul, which is on it's final season.

Fantastic show, and personally, I think when it ends, I'll enjoy it more than Breaking Bad (the show this spun-off of). Quality mid-season finale episode.

I know how you feel. When I first joined, I was an idiot kid who spent half his time in the trashcan, or whatever that section was called. It's amazing just how many memories I have of this forum and the people here (which is one of the reasons I try to stick around and do what I can).

Glad to see you pop in though, Seed (if you don't terribly mind me using your old screen-name). It is nice to hear that others do occasionally think back on FE - gives me a nostalgic feeling.

Hope that you're able to find a job and/or money lying on the ground. Life has been somewhat trying for me recently also - my mother will likely be dead in the next month-and-a-half, and I just left my job - so I certainly hope that things pick up for you.

Sounds wild. At least if you need it, you have healthcare available, so at least there's that.  [*laugh*]

Seriously, be who you are and be what you be.

Honestly, I'm just happy you're alive, Shadow. My life is void of pretty much everything, giving me more time to devote here, but I certainly understand how a much busier life would make it a lot more difficult to check in every day.

Maybe once things stabilize down the line, and these updates come on through, thinks will improve.

Hope you're doing well, Shadow. [*thumbsup*]

Yeah, I wasn't blown away by Halloween Kills. I thought the kills were pretty solid down the line, but some of the story elements just bothered the hell out of me. Gave it an average rating myself.

To round up what I've seen in the last couple of weeks:

Wolf Country (2005) - 9/11/2021 [Rewatch]

Low-budget Scottish werewolf movie. Highlights are okay special effects and Peter Capaldi in a couple of sequences. Below average.

Amsterdamned (1988) - 9/13/2021 [Rewatch]

Very solid Dutch slasher. Beautiful setting in Amsterdam, and solid sequences throughout. Maybe runs a little long, but still quite worth it.

Goblin (2010) - 9/15/2021 [Rewatch]

Okay Syfy movie. Decent story and performances, but not among the best of Syfy films from the last ten years.

Wicked Little Things (2006) - 9/15/2021 [Rewatch]

This is a movie I recall liking more than I apparently do now. Pretty decent idea, but the story has some plot issues, and the film just isn't as good as I remember it being.

You're Not Getting Out Alive (2011) - 9/16/2021 [Rewatch]

Ultra-low budget slasher from Colorado. Very low-budget, but I enjoyed it quite a bit, and possessed some legit amusing portions (which makes sense, as it's a comedy-horror). No idea if this is even officially released, but I still quite like it.

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988) - 9/16/2021 [Rewatch]

Perhaps the second best Halloween movie (after the first), this is an almost perfect movie, and I've loved it since I was a kid. A lot of great scenes, and this just has a lot going for it.

Malignant (2021) - 9/18/2021 [New watch]

Surprisingly decent. There are a few plot issues, but there is a lot of style to this movie, and though it's not perfect, it does have some very solid action sequences.

Idle Hands (1999) - 9/19/2021 [Repeat Rewatch]

It's almost an average movie, but it's just too goofy at times. Seen this multiple times, and some scenes still stick with me ever since I was a kid, but it's just too silly at times to really get into.

Weaverfish (2013) - 9/21/2021 [Rewatch]

A nice British Cabin Fever-esque movie. Feels a little too somber at times, and possesses quite a lengthy set-up (almost an hour before the horror really hits hard), but I do quite love the story and the finale, which packs a strong emotional punch.

Greenland (2020)

Saw the trailer a couple of times, and looked interested. The movie was okay - a bit more drama-heavy then end-of-the-world-action heavy - and Morena Baccarin (Leslie from Gotham) and Gerard Butler were perfectly adequate. It just doesn't hold a candle to better films in the same vein, such as The Day After Tomorrow.

Probably rate this one around average, maybe a little below. Not a terrible movie, but not necessarily worth two hours of time.

It's funny you mention that, because I saw that advertised on NetFlix, and was considering giving it a watch.

I've been getting back into Gotham. A very up-and-down show, I just have a season and a half to finish, so wondering what wild things will pop up with limited time left.

I've still not seen 3 from Hell (I should probably check it out sometime soon, though), but I hope it goes reasonably well.

Though we did like it more than you, so try not to be too disappointed in us.  [*laugh*]

The Messengers (2007)

Has a few okay moments, but strikes me as overall very lukewarm and forgettable. Which is probably why, though I've seen it before, it pretty much felt like a new watch.  [*laugh*]

Horror Talk / Halloween Kills premiering on Peacock

I don't have Peacock, but it might be worth subscribing to just to see Halloween Kills. To be honest, I wasn't a giant fan of the 2018 Halloween, but even so, seeing this on in the comforts of my home does sound appealing (and it works ever better as I was going to get rid of my Hulu subscription in the next week or so).

Midnight Meat Train is a lot of fun whenever I deign to revisit it.

I have to admit I have a bit of a soft spot for Hellraiser Inferno - it's not a great movie, but there are elements I quite like, and personally I enjoy it more than Hell on Earth or Bloodine.

Madhouse is a movie I don't remember too much about (aside from that I know it under the title There Was a Little Girl), but I hope it goes well.

Been on a little spree, trying to get back into watching horror before October. Watched six movies in the last five days. All of these are rewatches.

Penny Dreadful (2006) - a bit dull past a certain point, but early on, it has decent suspense. Below average, but not terrible.

Castle Freak (1995) - fantastically depressing and tragic, a well-made cheap film. Great performances, tense scenes, while worth a watch.

Hideaway (1995) - Jeff Goldblum is really one of the few decent things about this movie. The CGI has aged damn terribly, and the story, while okay at times, runs on too long.

Macabre (1958) - William Castle's first horror film, this does have some solid suspense, and possesses a good story, but lacks the punch of later Castle films.

La notte che Evelyn uscì dalla tomba (1971) - Known as The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave, this was a fantastic mix of classic Italian gothic cinema and giallo. A lot of suspects, and a damn good story. The print on Shudder was so much better than the print I first saw.

The Gate (1987) - it's not a favorite of mine, but it can be pretty fun, and the stop-motion special effects were pretty impressive.

As always, my full reviews will be available both upon request and within the next year before.

So I was going to ask what your old username was, and then reread your second sentence.  [*laugh*]

Glad to see you back, though.

I miss those old review days (I know I did a zombie one, with The Dead Pit, City of the Living Dead, and some others), but Chucky and I have gotten back to review shows (https://www.youtube.com/user/FightEvilcom/videos) and have 48 episodes (five movies each episode) uploaded, so that might be worth checking out.

It's hard to go wrong with Hellraiser or Wishmaster (at least until Hellraiser: Bloodline or Wishmaster 2), but the first movies in the series are just as great as they've always been.

Again, nice to see you back - we're glad to have you.
