Horror Talk / The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)
April 04, 2018, 01:02:42 PM
While the final one-third of the flick fails to live up to the build-up, The Autopsy of Jane Doe is a mostly well-done and claustrophobic movie, and I certainly recommend it to anyone interested in checking out newer horror.

Pray tell, what did you think of The Autopsy of Jane Doe?

Horror Talk / Killjoy (2000)
April 04, 2018, 09:03:18 AM
This is a hard movie to enjoy unless you watch it in a party environment, going in knowing how terrible it is. Watching solo, Killjoy has little I recommend. It still can be a hoot, though.

Horror Talk / The Queen of Spades (1916)
April 02, 2018, 02:50:54 AM
Coming to us from before the Russian Revolution and the formation of the USSR, Pikovaya dama (The Queen of Spades) certainly has some positive features that unfortunately get drowned out by the lack of horror elements, which pop up a bit too late into the film.

Horror Talk / Friend Request (2016)
April 02, 2018, 02:42:28 AM
This banal waste of space is almost utterly without merit. Made for the consumption of teenagers, the only reason this flick exists is to make quick bucks. While I'm not glad I saw it, I am glad I didn't pay a cent to view it.

Have you anything kind to say about this soulless piece of trash?

Horror Talk / Piranha 3D (2010)
March 31, 2018, 04:58:59 AM
For whatever this movie may lack, Piranha, when all is said and done, is a damn entertaining film. Fantastic gore and a good rampage that doesn't go amiss. Sure, there may not be that much else going for it, but I had a fun time, and I think that's all this movie was going for.

What did you think of this rendition of Piranha?

While certainly meandering at points, and weighed down by just a bit too much melodrama, this flick does boast some suspense scenes and solid acting. Certainly far from the best silent horror flick, The Avenging Conscience has character (one that apparently likes Edgar Allan Poe [*laugh*]).

Have you chanced upon this silent flick?

Horror Talk / Cabin Fever (2016)
March 29, 2018, 06:24:33 AM
While certainly a pretty pointless remake, the 2016 version of Cabin Fever stripped the story of the comedic portions and tried to play it straight, or as straight as possible without changing more than a handful of lines within the first half of the film. A very flawed product still, it improves marginally on the original.

What did you think of this remake?

Horror Talk / Miles Before Sleep (2016)
March 29, 2018, 06:14:55 AM
Michael Taylor Pritt's second film is a mostly solid outing, though the plot isn't particularly amazing. It drags a bit, but being as it's under an hour, it's generally able to keep you interested.

What say you on Miles Before Sleep?

Horror Talk / The Toxic Slime Creature (1982)
March 27, 2018, 05:49:07 PM
What this obscure flick lacks in plot and excitement, it moderately makes up for in the charm it possesses. Certainly, none of the actors are amazing, and we get the monster in doses too short to make an effect, but still, you can tell this straight-to-video flick had heart.

Have you ventured across The Toxic Slime Creature?

Horror Talk / Hatchet (2006)
March 26, 2018, 03:36:47 PM
Marred by too much humor and idiotic characters, Hatchet still manages to harken back to the golden day of slashers well enough to warrant at least one view.

Horror Talk / The Student of Prague (1913)
March 25, 2018, 01:15:34 AM
Widely considered the first full-length horror movie ever released (including by yours truly), this German movie stands up well to this day (providing you have the most complete print), and doesn't drag or plod along. While the story itself isn't necessarily enthralling, and there are plenty of other better and more enjoyable silent horror movies from Germany alone, Der Student von Prag is a very solid film any fan of early cinema should give a shot.

Have you witnessed the birth of full-length horror cinema?

Horror Talk / The Lights (2009)
March 25, 2018, 01:01:14 AM
There's very little that stands out in this 2009 slasher flick, save for occasional good kills and moderately solid acting (from some of the characters). Though niche, seeing a familiar face from the game show Survivor was at least a nice touch.

What did you think of this forgettable slasher flick?

Horror Talk / Krampus (2015)
March 24, 2018, 04:42:01 AM
Earning $16.3 million it's opening weekend, Krampus had widespread success due to a combination of it's somewhat unique story, solid actors, bleak atmosphere, and comedy that's not overdone. While not without flaws, and not even my favorite Christmas-themed horror comedy, Krampus is a fun watch.

What were your thoughts on this Christmas-themed horror movie?

Horror Talk / The Dark (1993)
March 24, 2018, 04:32:41 AM
While the story isn't one that's overly creative, the actors throughout this film really make it worth at least one go-around. Certainly lower budget, but there's still some fun to be had.

Have you seen this early 90's horror flick?

Horror Talk / Cube (1997)
March 22, 2018, 05:35:18 PM
While certainly some flaws are present, Cube has always been a fun and claustrophobic flick. While the ending might be inclined to annoy some, I personally thought it worked out well.

Have you seen this science-fiction/horror hybrid?

Horror Talk / Almost Mercy (2015)
March 22, 2018, 03:29:35 AM
While certainly not your conventional horror flick, Almost Mercy had a tone and presentation I deeply enjoyed, though I feel that to many horror fans, the movie would fall flat.

What did you think of this quirky horror flick?

Horror Talk / Cannibal Feast (2011)
March 21, 2018, 03:29:08 AM
This movie is about as atrocious as one could imagine - probably a little more. Unless you're watching for some occasionally attractive chicks, there's really nothing here worth looking for.

I wouldn't recommend watching this, but if you did, what was your take?

Horror Talk / Cabin Fever (2002)
March 21, 2018, 03:22:42 AM
Because of the humorous tone this movie oft possesses, it's never done anywhere near as much for me as it could have, despite the pretty interesting plot.

That said, I am in the minority, so what did you think of Eli Roth's first horror hit?

Horror Talk / Pontypool (2008)
March 20, 2018, 04:46:51 AM
This Canadian flick has a moderately confusing plot, and more than a few things aren't made clear by the end, but it also possesses many tense scenes and enjoyable secondhand onslaught. It's not enough to save it, but at the very least, it makes Pontypool passable.

What did you think of this mind-bending movie?

Horror Talk / The Unspoken (2015)
March 18, 2018, 09:20:37 AM
Taking a unique route, as far as haunted house movies go, The Unspoken really stood out in a subgenre that is all too often stale as of late. Solid main actors and actresses really make this a film worth seeking out.
