Horror Talk / Little Evil (2017)
June 07, 2019, 06:12:01 AM
While far from a great film, or even a film that's worth seeing more than once, Little Evil is a serviceable enough comedy/horror mix that actually possesses some moving scenes later in the film that are worth going through the somewhat generic opening. A few pretty funny scenes and lines, if comedy/horror is something you're into, Little Evil might be worth a look.

Horror Talk / Hurt (2009)
June 05, 2019, 07:38:55 PM
Hurt is far from a perfect film, and given it's rather a slow-burn, it may turn some people off. The story isn't exactly amazing, but I do think the performances are mostly solid, and long with the realistic drama and solid suspense, coupled with the moody, often bleak feel, Hurt does have a little something to offer.

Horror Talk / Eyes of a Stranger (1981)
June 03, 2019, 01:19:27 AM
While not really amazing or even necessarily all that notable, Eyes of a Stranger was an enjoyable slasher that, while occasionally focused a bit too much on unlikable characters, had a great character played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, a satisfactory conclusion, and some solid gore (when they chose to go that direction).

Horror Talk / The Void (2016)
June 01, 2019, 06:03:11 AM
The Void has a lot of positives going for it, such as the breakneck pace and fantastic special effects, not to mention the pleasurably chaotic story, but other elements, such as the many unanswered questions left by the end of the film, brought it down a bit. Still a very solid film, and very much worth watching, but having seen it multiple times, I don't necessarily love it.

Easily the best movie in the series save the original, Dream Warriors has always been a lot of fun, and a rather enjoyably great film every time I've seen it (which has been quite a few times). The movie's not perfect (a subplot or two don't quite feel right), but it's a damn good film, and always worth a watch. Plenty of creepy scenes and good deaths, this is definitely worth a look.

Horror Talk / Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings (1993)
May 30, 2019, 05:10:53 AM
While the story is pretty decent and rather ambitious for a straight-to-video sequel, Pumpkinhead II isn't really that great. It's okay, a bit below average, with some solid performances, but generally speaking, seeing it again didn't really blow my mind at all. The first is definitely a more well-rounded film, so while this may be good for a single viewing, I don't know it's inclined to become a new favorite.

Horror Talk / Hell House LLC (2015)
May 24, 2019, 07:17:49 AM
Perhaps one of the best modern found footage horror films I can think of, Hell House LLC has a lot going for it, including the use of various methods of story reveal, great scares (including some rather subtle that are easy to miss), and an overall solid presentation that definitely allows the film to positively stand out. A damn good found footage film, Hell House LLC comes highly recommended.

Horror Talk / The Vampire Bat (1933)
May 12, 2019, 11:49:14 PM
While certainly not a classic the likes of Dracula or Frankenstein, The Vampire Bat is often a moody and enjoyable way to spend an hour. There's solid performances, decent mystery, and a rather progressive-thinking protagonist. There's a lot to enjoy here, so if you're a fan of black-and-white flicks, I'd recommend checking this out.

Horror Talk / Cloverfield (2008)
May 12, 2019, 11:38:32 PM
Cloverfield is appropriately chaotic, and is quite action-packed, which works well despite what one would think of a stylistic handicap (being found footage), but because of the mind-numbing opening twenty minutes and the fact that one of the characters is pretty annoying throughout the film, despite what Cloverfield gets right, I don't overly love it. Not a bad time to pass the time, but there are better flicks, even within the found footage style of film, to go with.

What are your thoughts on the somewhat popular Cloverfield?

Horror Talk / Day of the Reaper (1984)
May 10, 2019, 04:13:05 AM
Tim Ritter's first film is a doozy, and probably only one that'd appeal to fans of Ritter or lower budget SOV films of the 1980's. Day of the Reaper has some solid stuff in it, but the audio and visual quality would make it really hard, I suspect, for most people to get through it. I've wanted to see this one for years, and while I didn't love it, I really appreciate what it was going for, especially given it was Ritter's first film.

Horror Talk / Midsommar trailer
May 02, 2019, 09:34:43 AM
Directed by the guy who did Hereditary, Midsommar will be coming out over the summer. Trailer was somewhat newly released, and thought it'd be worth sharing (especially since I'll probably bring it up on the podcast at some point).

Horror Talk / Gehenna: Where Death Lives (2016)
May 01, 2019, 07:49:02 AM
Despite the potential this movie had, ultimately, it just felt like another by-the-numbers ghost story. It had a decent setting, and some of the aspects of the plot were cool, but the final product turns out rather forgettable, and the fact that it runs for an hour and 45 minutes makes this a really hard one to recommend.

Horror Talk / Creepshow (1982)
May 01, 2019, 07:41:10 AM
While not every story is a hit, Creepshow is still a lot of fun and does great with it's comic book style. Great performances, some fun segments, solid animation, and just overall enjoyable, Creepshow's often considered a classic for a reason.

Horror Talk / The Wicker Man (2006)
May 01, 2019, 07:33:36 AM
When all's said and done, this film is basically the Nicholas Cage Story. His character's antics are so over-bearing that it's really hard to separate Cage from the rest of the film, which is, despite being a remake of a far better film, still somewhat interesting. I do like the mystery in the film, but it's just really hard to take seriously.

To those of you who have seen the film, HOW'D IT GET BURNED? HOW'D IT GET BURNED? HOW'D IT GET BURNED? HOW'D IT GET BURNED?

Horror Talk / GoatSucker (2009)
May 01, 2019, 07:26:39 AM
While lower-budget, this firmly tongue-in-cheek movie can still be rather fun, given the decently enjoyable characters and somewhat interesting plot. Not great by any means, but moderately well-worth my time.

Horror Talk / Vampire Ticks from Outer Space (2013)
April 20, 2019, 06:24:42 AM
This movie may be ridiculous and silly, but it has a lot of heart, so despite the rather low quality of it all, I definitely had fun with this one, especially the over-the-top acting at points and questionable conclusion.

What are your thoughts on this low-budget, fun flick?

Horror Talk / Secret of the Blue Room (1933)
April 17, 2019, 05:20:50 AM
While it's true that this movie could have used a bit more meat to the story, I think the mystery in Secret of the Blue Room is pretty fun, and the plot's definitely an enjoyable affair. Solid performances throughout, along with a satisfactory conclusion. It's not often spoken about, and I think that this movie's somewhat largely forgotten, but I continually have a lot of fun with this one.

Horror Talk / I Drink Your Blood (1970)
April 13, 2019, 06:31:18 AM
I Drink Your Blood is a pretty decent early 70's film, but it could have been better if they had focused more on the gore as opposed to some of the drama and cult activities. It's a pretty sick plot ('sick' being used here as though I'm a skater  [*laugh*]), and the gore, when it does pop up, is solid, but this movie's a few steps short of great.

Horror Talk / Suspiria (1977)
April 10, 2019, 04:03:31 PM
Insofar as this Italian classic goes, the high point really is the moody atmosphere combined with the mesmerizing color scheme and fantastic score (provided by Goblin). The story isn't particularly great, though it is different, so that alone gets some props. Suspiria isn't as enjoyable as Deep Red was (though, to be fair, I may well be in the minority when it comes to that thought), but it's still a solid movie that's artistically stylistic and quite pretty to behold.

Horror Talk / Urban Legend (1998)
April 10, 2019, 11:58:50 AM
This film lacks much of the gore and suspense I'd have otherwise appreciated. It feels really watered down, and that very much shows in the final product. The mystery and story are fun, though the ending's a bit iffy, if only due to some questionable acting. While certainly a flawed movie, this is one of those post-Scream slashers that always seems to pull me in.

What are your thoughts on this late-90's slasher?
