Music / Best songs from horror films
July 17, 2022, 01:05:39 AM
And I'm not talking the greatest themes here, such as Halloween's classic theme.

For instance, Prom Night end with a depressive song titled "Fade to Black" by Gordene Simpson.

The Orphan (1979) is not a good movie. It's far more a drama than it is a horror. However, it does have the song "I Need to Live Alone Again" by Janis Ian (of "At Seventeen" fame).

From the criminally underrated B.O.R.N. (1989), also known under the title Merchants of Death, there's a fantastic song titled "How Do You Begin" by Jenifer Smith Meisner.

Lastly, lets end with an up-beat song. From Blacula, we have the insanely catchy "There He Is Again" by The Hues Corporation. Believe me, this went to my iTunes immediately.

What are some of your favorite songs from horror films?

Horror Talk / Halloween Kills premiering on Peacock
September 10, 2021, 02:35:08 PM
https://variety.com/2021/film/news/halloween-kills-peacock-movie-theaters-1235060227/

I don't have Peacock, but it might be worth subscribing to just to see Halloween Kills. To be honest, I wasn't a giant fan of the 2018 Halloween, but even so, seeing this on in the comforts of my home does sound appealing (and it works ever better as I was going to get rid of my Hulu subscription in the next week or so).

Horror Talk / Squirm (1976)
June 27, 2021, 02:35:43 AM
I admit that this impressed me quite a bit. The southern scenery was beautiful, most of the central cast were strong, and the special effects were, as the kids say, on point. It's a well-done movie, maybe a little dry during the first hour, but ultimately well worth a watch.

Horror Talk / The Dead Next Door (1989)
June 27, 2021, 02:25:31 AM
While I won't deny that The Dead Next Door occasionally boasts some pretty good special effects, I find so much of the movie, from performances to the story, inept, and because of that, I just really didn't care much for this one.

Anyone out there legit enjoy this addition to the zombie subgenre?

Horror Talk / Eden Lake (2008)
June 27, 2021, 02:16:11 AM
For a fun time, Eden Lake has your back. Imagine sunflowers and bright fields flowing with happy children, and you understand what Eden Lake is aiming for.

What are your thoughts on this British movie?

Horror Talk / Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed (2004)
March 08, 2021, 05:44:04 AM
I feel that Ginger Snaps 2 is an okay movie that takes some questionable story routes and ends on a less-than-satisfactory note. There's enough here to get the film to break even, but it's far from a great film, and I don't know it's it's one that people would go back too that often (unlike the fantastic first movie).

What are your thoughts on this sequel?

Horror Talk / The Incredible Melting Man (1977)
March 08, 2021, 05:28:04 AM
While possessing some solid special effects, The Incredible Melting Man strikes me as an excruciatingly dull movie with little going for it. It has that nice, somber 70's atmosphere, but it's also sluggish and slow, so it's just not worth it.

What are your thoughts on this 70's flick?

Horror Talk / Wrong Turn (2003)
March 03, 2021, 09:41:24 AM
Wrong Turn is the right turn. Quality sequences of mad violence and horrifying specters of death abound.

Have you ever taken a Wrong Turn and ended up in Canada (but pretended it was West Virginia)?

Horror Talk / Visiting Hours (1982)
March 03, 2021, 09:22:15 AM
More than anything, I think Visiting Hours drags a lot. There are some sequences worth seeing, perhaps, but a large portion of the film either feels like filler or that it's been going on far too long. Regardless of some solid performances, Visiting Hours doesn't really have a ton going for it.

What do you think about this hospital-based slasher?

Horror Talk / I Don't Want to Be Born (1975)
March 03, 2021, 09:09:31 AM
This British film isn't that stellar, but it does possess an occasionally okay sequence and Donald Pleasence, so I don't personally find it near as bad as others tend to.

What are your thoughts on I Don't Want to Be Born?

Horror Talk / Cut (2000)

Cut is trash.  [*hehehmm*]

What do you think about this slasher?

Horror Talk / Peeping Tom (1960)
January 30, 2021, 02:07:58 PM
I have to admit that I expected more from this proto-slasher. While Peeping Tom wasn't without potential, I felt that it dragged far more than anything else, and though I wish I could have enjoyed this classic more, especially after literal years of wanting to see it, it's overall not all that, as the kids say.

Have you ever been a Peeping Tom?

Horror Talk / House (1985)
January 30, 2021, 02:04:48 PM
Some of this may well be nostalgia speaking, but I think that House, behind it's comedic coat of paint, contains plenty of interesting character-driven ideas, such as the main character's battle with his memories of Vietnam. Definitely not perfect, House does get a bit goofy at times, but generally I find the film pretty solid.

What are your thoughts on House, and would you pay the rent?

Horror Talk / Killing Spree (1987)
January 30, 2021, 01:50:16 PM
No doubt a movie of the lowest of budgets, Tim Ritter's Killing Spree still comes across as a pretty fun film with plenty of ridiculous pieces of dialogue and enjoyable sequences. It can get a bit random toward the end, and the movie ultimately may not be great, but it still provides a moderately fun time.

Anyone out there fans of Killing Spree?

Horror Talk / Tremors (1990)
January 27, 2021, 02:22:34 PM
I've found this a highly entertaining film ever since I was a kid, and while I don't think it's perfect, I think Tremors has a lot going for it, and is definitely worth a watch ever if you're the most mild of horror fans.

How do you feel about the first entry of this series?

Horror Talk / Friday the 13th Part 3 (1982)
January 18, 2021, 09:09:17 AM
It's my contention that Part 3 of this series is the weakest of the first five movies, and while it still ends up an above average film (if for no other reason, personal nostalgia), I found the lack of memorable characters and somewhat cheap-feeling finale (not to mention odd addition of Jason not killing people just because they black-out) all to it's detriment.

What are your thoughts on this 3-D masterpiece bois?

#17
Horror Talk / Gutterballs (2008)
January 18, 2021, 08:59:12 AM
Gutterballs may not be the easiest movie to like, what with the constant childish dialogue and somewhat plot-free feel, but I found the gore to be decent, the rape-revenge aspect done reasonably well, and let's be honest, it actually makes bowling look fun.

What are your thoughts on bowling, and how does that impact your view on Gutterballs?

Horror Talk / Naked Fear (2007)
January 06, 2021, 07:51:46 AM
Naked Fear is a competently-made film, but it's not a particularly enjoyable one, and while it's far from a bad movie, it's not one that I think I'd ever recommend for any reason. But hey, there's nudity.

What are your thoughts on this film?

Horror Talk / Battle Royale (2000)
January 05, 2021, 06:06:37 AM
So I saw Battle Royale at a young age, related tremendously to the movie, and as such, consider it perfect. An easy 10/10, no question in my mind.

What are your thoughts on this Asian fright fest?

The main problem with Jack Frost 2 is that it went a far more comedic direction than the first film, and came across as pathetically idiotic, making it a harder film to enjoy. There were some okay kills, and the performances were mostly passable, but the story here was just laughably bad.

Have you witnessed this atrocity, or do you live a life worth living?
