Horror Talk / Arachnophobia (1990)
August 10, 2019, 03:17:42 PM
Arachnophobia has been a favorite of mine since childhood, and it's undeniably a classic movie in every way, from cast to music to everything.

What are your thoughts on a highlight of the 1990's?

Horror Talk / Song at Midnight (1935)
August 10, 2019, 03:09:19 PM
I wish I liked this more than I did. One of China's first horror films, along with being an adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera (the original French novel, of course), Song at Midnight (originally Ye ban ge sheng) is a very choppy film, much of it due to the poor existing print. Despite being subtitled, some of the dialogue is nonsensical, some of the scenes (especially in the opening twenty minutes) incomprehensible.

This said, the film is probably somewhere around average, if not a little lower - what are your thoughts on this Chinese classic?

Horror Talk / Dead in the Water (2018)
August 01, 2019, 02:53:06 AM
Dead in the Water is an uninspired movie with a plot that's been seen many times before, and with one-dimensional characters thrown in, there's very, very little reason to watch this Syfy film.

Horror Talk / The Black Sleep (1956)
August 01, 2019, 02:52:58 AM
At times feeling like a 1930's or 1940's horror film, other times coming across as a pre-Hammer Hammer film, The Black Sleep has an interesting feel to it, and the great cast really brings out the character of the film. I didn't entirely love it, but I do think it's somewhat a classic film that many people either don't think about or don't know about.

What are your thoughts about this 50's flick?

Horror Talk / Cat Sick Blues (2015)
July 31, 2019, 02:00:35 PM
Cat Sick Blues is an odd film that likely wouldn't appeal to many due to the somewhat extreme content the film possesses. That said, if you're a fan of slashers, or just movies that are fucked up, I'd certainly recommend giving this foreign film a go.

Horror Talk / Sorority House Massacre (1986)
July 31, 2019, 01:58:40 PM
While not really that far removed from other 80's slashers (save the somewhat interesting dream sequences), I thought this was a rather competently made flick, and I enjoyed it probably more than I suspect many others would.

What are your thoughts on this slasher?

So, this Bigfoot film isn't really that great at all. There's not much of a story, one of the central performances is a bit lacking, and the film clocks in at 42 minutes. Still, some portions of this film really amused the hell out of me, and given that I laughed multiple times during the movie, while it's below average, I can admit that, to an extent, I enjoyed it.

What are your thoughts on this low-budget Bigfoot flick?

Horror Talk / Cherokee Creek (2018)

Cherokee Creek was an hour and 56 minutes of shit.

Horror Talk / The Rogues' Tavern (1936)
July 19, 2019, 04:19:53 AM
While many other films of the same style are more enjoyable (such as The Cat and the Canary, The Bat Whispers, The Monster Walks, etc.), this lower-budget addition to the dark-and-stormy night horror/mysteries is still a decent amount of fun with a solid plot and decent, witty dialogue. The third act runs a bit long, which is perhaps the biggest problem here, but generally, while not my go-to, this is still an enjoyable film.

Horror Talk / Silent Predators (1999)
July 18, 2019, 06:56:01 AM
While not really an amazing movie, for a late 1990's television snake horror flick, I think that Silent Predators has a lot of charm. The film has a decent cast, and overall, I found the film, while maybe simplistic, refreshing in it's special effects and satisfying as far as the story goes.

Horror Talk / Dark Mirror (2007)
July 08, 2019, 05:52:47 PM
With rather pitiful kills, lackluster performances, and a somewhat incoherent plot past a certain point, Dark Mirror really doesn't have much going for it. Some of the ideas are interesting, and a scene toward the end was decent, but overall the movie's not really worth it.

Horror Talk / Baby Blues (2008)
July 07, 2019, 12:13:20 AM
While the movie can be disturbing to son, the movie is a taut and tense experience, digestible and well-made, and certainly not lacking in acts of manic violence. There are a few problems toward the end of the film, but overall, this is a movie that's been somewhat overlooked for too long.

What are your feelings on this often-controversial flick?

Horror Talk / Tales from the Crypt (1972)
July 06, 2019, 06:05:34 AM
Not every story in this classic anthology is perfect, but two are pretty damn close. There's a solid cast boasted in this film (including Peter Cushing), and while some might think the film just another dry, British movie, there's definitely things in Tales from the Crypt that are worth witnessing.

Horror Talk / Mad Love (1935)
June 30, 2019, 11:52:56 PM
Due to Peter Lorre's fantastic performance, Mad Love is a true classic of 1930's horror, a decade that already boasts fan favorites such as Frankenstein and Dracula. It's a good story anyway, based off a French novel (that was previously adapted in the 1924 German film The Hands of Orloc), but Lorre really brings the insanity of his character to life. Definitely a movie I recommend.

The VVitch is a very interesting film that easily stands out given it's deep focus on increasing religious mania and it's very archaic language structure (the film takes place in the 1600's, and it definitely feels like it). Aside from the ending, which I'm somewhat torn on, I think the film has a some great performances, fantastic suspense, and a strong anti-religious message. Who can't get behind that?

Horror Talk / The 9th Guest (1934)
June 21, 2019, 10:22:58 AM
The 9th Guest is a fun little movie, and while it's not entirely memorable in comparison to some of the other 30's classic horror films, the movie has a lot going for it. If you're a fan of such films as The Cat and the Canary or The Last Warning, this certainly might be one worth looking at.

Horror Talk / The Dark Half (1993)
June 16, 2019, 01:40:10 AM
Despite an somewhat interesting story and occasionally solid gore, I've seen The Dark Half a handful of times before, and it's never really done that much for me. On a technical level, I think the film's perfectly fine, but I've never overly enjoyed it, and generally find The Dark Half below average.

Horror Talk / Subspecies (1991)
June 13, 2019, 06:08:35 PM
The vibe Subspecies has is great, and while I don't utterly adore the story, I do think there's enough here to keep my interest going, and the design of Radu is pretty solid also. Not a favorite, not even among vampire movies, but certainly worth watching at least once.

Horror Talk / Whistle and I'll Come to You (2010)
June 13, 2019, 06:07:19 PM
Based off a short story by rather well-known M.R. James, this 50-minute adaptation from the BBC has some decent scenes, and is rather emotional at times, but ultimately, because of a somewhat sluggish pace, end up around average. John Hurt is great here, though.

Horror Talk / Curse of Halloween (2006)
June 12, 2019, 10:42:12 AM
One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Some potential with the story, but even at only an hour long, Curse of Halloween virtually creates one of the most unenjoyable experiences possible. Worth a watch if you're into inept flicks.

What are your thoughts - just joking, so few people have seen this, seems a waste asking.
