Pretty sure the forum might have been deleted twice since you were Seed...or at least once.

Random Bullshit / Re: Anybody remember me?

I don't remember anybody. Especially myself.

I've been working on and off on my other projects, though work has been draining me mentally so I can go a month with nothing but my Doctor Who podcast, get active elsewhere for a week, then repeat it seems lately.

Random Bullshit / Re: FE reunion
December 16, 2014, 05:02:32 PM
Most of my communication lately is via Skype and Facebook, but if there were to be an active community to visit I would at least make a point of stopping by. I think I still get an email if you PM me.

Random Bullshit / Re: Fucking Spam Accounts.

This is how I'm notified that posts are actually happening on FE? By a reported thread email?

Guess I'll earn my pay, then see how many posts actually occurred in 2014...

EDIT: Okay, either I'm deleting so fast that the forum is getting pissed off, or Chuck is doing something.

The thing with the Hellraiser films -
1. Torture porn for the '80s
2. Stop the bad guy gore film
3. Slasher
4. Story-focused Sci-Fi with horror elements
5. Mystery thriller with fantasy/horror elements
6. Slasher with mystery thriller elements

I would have to watch 7 and 8 and pay more attention to classify them, which I'm not wont to do

9. Terrible remake with found footage elements

Slasher films are fine to watch in theatres, as they are big and loud and generally the audience reaction helps.  Actual horror movies, though, it has to be the right kind of audience.  The audience I watched The Conjuring with was great; the audience I watched Woman in Black with almost drove me to physical violence.

I find 5 to be good and 6 worth it when I'm in the right mood.  4... is okay, just extremely slow.  7-9 though, don't bother.

I'm very, very late for this, but I watched Hellraiser for the first time yesterday.

Holy shit, that movie's scary.

EDIT: And now I just watched The Cabin in The Woods. Damn, that was awesome. It was like Evil Dead meets Hellraiser meets Cube meets Hunger Games meets Dollhouse meets the Cthulhu Mythos.
Two awesome movies.  Clive Barker and Joss Whedon.  Also, two movies with Cenobites in them.  So, you know, win.

That's not the case here, but Christian imagery and structure is definitely toted as being all but essential to fighting off a demon, similar to how only a Priest can beat the demon in The Exorcist.

Oh. the Conjuring.  Didn't rate it.  8/10  Great movie, but with two big caveats that are going to effect a lot of audiences and do firmly put this "based on a true story" film firmly into the realm of obvious fiction for me.

Might #1 feed into #3 a bit?

Reasons not to see this movie:
1. You cannot possibly view Christianity as a successful anti-demon force.
2. You cannot stand 30 minutes of build-up before anything exciting happens.
3. You hate The Exorcist for some reason.

That said, this film is brilliant.  The Hayes brothers do a great job of subverting a modern audiences expectations, and the directing style is somewhere between Insidious and The Exorcist.

Horror Talk / Re: Versus Movies: Chucky?
July 27, 2013, 01:40:26 PM
Not sure about the film, but in the novel the Firestarter powers first appeared as telekinesis, but as they grew and got out of control they became pyrokinesis.  If the film is the same, that actually makes Charlene a more powerful version of Carrie.

Maybe Chucky and the demons from Insidious fighting over the same child?

When I saw the commercials I was like, "Oh great, another parody movie." Then I was like, "wait.....this is actually supposed to be serious? Ok....." I won't be seeing it at all.
From what I understand, it's Paranormal Activity for people who didn't like Paranormal Activity, and the best horror movie of 2013.
