I went to college for a political science major, and a sociology and history double minor.
How was Soc? I'm taking my first Soc class in the Fall, and the Minors that I'm thinking of taking up involve a lot of Soc classes/Independent Studies.

I'll never in my life be able to see that as a horror film.
I almost referred to it as borderline, but then I realized that it's a kaiju film and a slasher flim at the same time (though the slasher aspects are toned down for the movie version) so it's hard to refer to it as anything else.

My last horror was Jurassic Park, which I watched for class, and am currently procrastinating writing a paper on. This wasn't my first time, but it was my first time in ages and the first time watching it immediately after reading the novel. As is usual for me, I like the book a lot more, but this is a better movie than I had realized in the past, especially now that I know enough about the process to notice some of the additions Spielberg made. This may well be another 9/10 for me.

I've watched a few older movies that are ambiguous horror/non-horror (e.g., post-apocalyptic) but let's resurrect this with the last one I saw in theatres.

I still need to finish my article on this that I promised to get up over a week ago. Hopefully it's an interesting article.

Wonder Woman - One of the best superhero films I've seen in a while. It has its problems but they're all relatively minor and it's certainly the best DC film in decades. There's been too much hype around it for me to critically come up with a score but this may well be 9/10.

Video Games / Re: Friday the 13th: The Game

I've heard good things, though I haven't looked much at it yet. I have a friend who's been streaming the game.

EDIT: Apparently they're adding the Crash Dummie avatar now.

I've only seen Rawhead Rex once, and it was mildly fun for what it was, but I can't help but think with all the hype De gave it, I was hoping for something a bit more.
The hype is for campy humor, which is very Your Mileage May Vary.

Alien: Covenant (2017)

I haven't seen such hotly diverse opinions of a film since, well, Prometheus, this film's predecessor. The film starts off as Prometheus 2 (it was originally going to have a Prometheus title, but the lukewarm reception to that film probably killed that idea, no matter the reason Ridley Scott gives), features a twist that makes it something completely different for a while, before going on to become an Alien-style confrontation. This movie does a decent job of demonstrating how the creatures in Prometheus became the ones in Alien (to the point that it causes me to re-evaluate my opinion of Prometheus, which I need to rewatch at some point) and provides some interesting scares, though some items are made painfully obvious earlier than they need to be. I enjoyed the film, but mileage tends to vary to an extreme extent so it may depend partially on your ability to suspend your disbelief. My rating: 7.5/10

With the front page active and hopefully an upcoming boost, I thought it would be a good idea to resurrect this thread.

Me? I went back to university in 2015 as a Psychology and Creative Writing student. This summer I'm doing a course on Science Fiction and Film, which is cool, and I'll be giving a talk on the history of post-apocalyptic fiction at a convention I staff at in August.

I have not been successful on the weight loss front.

Random Bullshit / Re: Who did you vote for in 2016?

There was exactly one candidate on the ballot (for POTUS) who wasn't an anti-vaxxer. I really don't give a damn if two of them only claimed to be because of their lunatic fringe bases and one of them believes that your right to give all the children in your community polio supersedes their right to not get polio. That alone was enough to narrow it down to one person.

Am I just blind or is the button to start a new thread gone?

I'm curious if Buffy the Vampire Slayer counts. It probably counts more than some of the movies that have been listed here throughout the years.

I honestly don't remember the last time I watched a horror movie for the first time, though. I should do something about that.

Ah, why the hell not.
Here's me and my podcast group running a panel at Geek.Kon. I wasn't in black that day because I was cosplaying the 10th Doctor, but I was only half in my cosplay because it was hot as fuck for some reason at that time of night:
