Other Movies / Pacific Rim
April 30, 2013, 09:47:40 AM
So back at Wondercon, the good ol' WB debuted the trailer for Guillermo Del Toro's next film, Pacific Rim. Said trailer made everyone jizz their pants and used twitter to felate the film. My first thoughts were, "I love Del Toro's films, but it can't be that good, can it?" Well, the trailer from Wondercon hit the interwebz today and it looks like a super fun movie. Basically, if you're a fan of Power Rangers, Godzilla, or other movies similar to it, you're going to love it. Check out the trailer below:

Video Games / Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
April 06, 2013, 05:42:23 PM
So the trailer to the new MGS game debuted about a week or so ago and it finally answered a lot of questions people had. For those unaware, last year, Hideo Kojima debuted a new entry into the game titled "Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes" which furthers the story of Big Boss. The game was to be open world, which is breaking the norm a bit for the mostly linear stage design of the series past. Months later, a mysterious trailer debuted at the Spike Video Game Awards titled "The Phantom Pain" by a "new" game studio called "Moby Dick Studios." Once that trailer was shown, people immediately got that it was a MGS game, but the question was, "Does that mean Ground Zeroes is off?" Well, after the debut of MGS V: The Phantom Pain, that answer is, "no." It seems that they'll be released separately, but together they make up MGS V. Also interesting to note that they'll be released on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3. A next gen release is speculated, but not confirmed.

Here's the trailer:

Honestly, I'm super excited about this game. I'm a huge Metal Gear fan and probably one of the few that wasn't disappointed in MGS 4. When the demo video for Ground Zeroes was released, Kojima already had my money. Then the trailer for the Phantom Pain emerged and my money was thrown at my computer, but that didn't seem to work. Anyways....From a visual stand point, MGS V looks fantastic. Though it should be noted that the computer running the game/that put the trailer together is comparable to a 360/PS3, but will be dialed back a bit to run as flawlessly as possible. Thus far, there's one thing that's got me bummed: David Hayter won't be returning.

Enough rambling. Anyone else looking forward to this? Thoughts?

Video Games / They Live: The Video Game
February 23, 2013, 08:43:26 AM
Didn't see that one coming, but apparently a "They Live" game is in development. I can't seem to find any info about it other than a tweet from "Rowdy" Roddy Piper:

"Just Rocked a new Video Game from They Live! Your going to love it!"

Considering video games based off of movies have been hit or miss (mostly miss,) not sure how to feel about this. But, Hot Rod has been on a bit of a roll with hilariously awesome videos on teh interwebz so I'll have to take his word for it.......for now.

Video Games / Playstation 4 Unveiling/Conference
February 22, 2013, 02:06:35 AM
Anyone else watch this last night and feel super underwhelmed by the whole thing? While some of the games shown off looked good, others looked surprisingly dull. I'm looking at you, Kill Zone! The one thing that really piqued my interest was the way the one developer integrated the Move controls (can't believe that's a sentence I'm typing) with something that looked a lot like Zbrush. That actually looked really cool. Other than that, it was pretty dull with a bunch of non news. Though, I did get a kick out of the Japanese developers trying to speak English. Was compelled to quote Team America throughout their entire speech.

Video Games / What's the Last Video Game You Played?
February 08, 2013, 03:49:42 AM
Same thing as the last Horror/Non-Horror threads. What's the last game you played and what did you think about it?

Last game I played was The Simpsons: Tapped Out. Super happy that it finally came out for the Android OS. Been playing it on and off this morning and have been digging it so far. I can see myself spending a lot of time with it. Definitely a good toilet game.  [*thumbsup*]

Same as the Last Horror Thread. Also forgot to mention, would be nice to see your thoughts on these and maybe a rating rather than just listing the title of the movie.

Last one I watched was Rocky 4. Cinemax on Demand has the whole series (with the exception of Rocky Balboa) so I've watched them all at least twice in the past month. As a kid, this was probably my favorite one due to how much of a bad ass Ivan Drago is. While he's still pretty bad ass (and is actually more of a threat than Clubber Lang was) I don't like this one nearly as much as I used to, but still find it really enjoyable. Apollo's death is still every bit as powerful as it was when I first saw this film, but I can't help but feel something is off about this movie.

Perhaps it's the overuse of the montage. Maybe it's Apollo's entrance into the Drago fight going on longer than necessary, I dunno. I have a general problem with the Rocky movies as a whole and that's the characters seem to regress waaaaay too much. Either way, I still dig the hell out of this movie. 7/10 solid film. Not the best in the series, but not the worst.

Horror Talk / What's the Last Horror Movie You Watched?
February 06, 2013, 12:29:02 AM
Since we're bringing back old/popular threads, I figured I'd necro this one. Would be nice to see your thoughts on these and maybe a rating rather than just listing the title of the movie.

Last horror movie I watched was Silence of the Lambs. Really, I kind of feel bad. I loved this movie when I was younger, now I think it's simply "meh." Don't get me wrong, Anthony Hopkins is fantastic as Hannibal Lecter and I do enjoy the Buffalo Bill character. But everything else is just.....it hasn't held up with time in my eyes. As I was watching it, I couldn't help but nitpick at it. Whether it be from certain performances (Jodie Foster) or the amateur-ish cinematography, I really don't enjoy this movie anymore.

If I had to give it a rating, I'm afraid it would have to be a 5/10, Average at best.

Television / The Walking Dead
February 05, 2013, 11:34:31 PM
Figure since we now have a TV section and I've seen this show brought up a few times, I'd make the thread so we can chit chat about it.

Right now, the Walking Dead is the only reason I even bother turning on my TV. To me, it's the only thing worth watching anymore and I'm super hyped for it's return this Sunday. The first portion of Season 3 started off amazingly and there were episodes that very well could have worked for season finales. I'm eager to see whether or not they can keep the pace they established going.
