While certainly enjoyable to an extent, Mikey's biggest drawback is that it's moderately unremarkable. Some great actors and actresses, along with some solid deaths, makes it a movie somewhat worth watching, but it probably won't be a movie you happen to remember.

What was the twist at the ending? Everything seemed sorta clear-cut to me.
And I think we both got the same gist that it's a very bland, vanilla movie (good description, that I wish I had thought of [*laugh*]).
Shame, because if any decade of horror past 1930 really needs some more great movies, it's the 1990's.

Well, the kid is essentially presumed dead from the explosion, only to be found later on being adopted by a new family. I can't fathom how the kid survived that blast.
Oh, I didn't even consider that as a plot twist. That's how weak it was. [*laugh*]
