Title: OUYA

Anyone is thinking of buying this one? Its kickstarter campain is one of the fastest rising ever, and it does look really sexy.

However, the launch titles lineup seems really, REALLY weak so far. I want to preorder it, but I'll wait and see a little longer.

Never heard about it, but I bet it's more than 30 dollars, so I'll have to sit this one out for at least four years.

It's a 100 dollars. 150 if you want two controllers. The price is a big part of the appeal.

I don't really trust any console not released by the big three these days. I'll wait and see how it does first.

I hardly touch my tv anymore, much less my console lately... so while I can appreciate this sort of thing happening, I doubt I'll get my hands on one.

so from what i gather there are no games disc or cartridges, all just dlc?

I don't put much faith in dlc all it takes is for your system to crap out our something funky to happen with your profile and all that stuff you paid for is gone plus no resale or trade value.

Think ill pass on this one

That's one of the main things that I dislike about electronic purchases... you're putting a lot of faith in the company to not screw things up for you later on. One of the reasons I stopped paying for stuff through Live, too. They did this to me once and I got screwed out of all kinds of dlc for games I had.

Downloadable games are extremely convenient, but they are indeed a gamble.

Also can't trust a system that's smaller than the controller.

From what I read about this, all the games that would be available for it are games you can get on Google Play or the iPhone App Store, just modified to cater to the Ouya's controls. It's also a system that encourages people to fuck with it. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.

All the "app" games will be compatible, but it will have its own original library. The launch titles are unimpressive so far, however.

I really hope it succeeds though. 60 dollars games with copy protection are not a thing that I enjoy.

Hey. I have something like this already. I call it my computer. I use an xbox controller, a 40" screen and when I think it's running slow or the graphics look less amazing, I can fix that.

Sometimes that's the only way the thing can get even slightly better than it's original release. Look at the things people have done with the Kinect. And the Kinect is complete shit.

I do that too, but our computers don't cost only a hundred bucks.

True story. But then there's the people that hack 360 games and cheat just to increase their rankings which saps the fun out of games.

i remember halo 2 on the og xbox being very bad for this at towards it's end of online play.

would be shooting someone across the map and they would end up glitching behind you  [*no*]

It's a lot worse on the 360 from everything I've seen. Of course, no platform is really safe from it. Kinda why I prefer single player games.

It likely won't set the world on fire, no. But seems to want to cater to casual gamers on a budget. I think that's a good thing to an extent.

casual gamer's on a budget i would recommend a ps2. could get one for 15-20 bucks and find quality games at flea markets yard sales ect for like 2 bucks a pop.

the wii showed that casual gamers will buy a system and then only get a few games on it. it also took the wii a good year at least to take off like it did and the main reason for that was wii sports. now most people have a smart phone which they have on them at all times. so they can pull it out and play while they are waiting. not too many people want to play those games on their tv. i don't see it going too far at all.

There is a difference between community driven mods, and shit eating hackers, though. And regardless of the style of the network, there will be hackers anyhow.

Regardless, I can admire them trying to do something different and creating new IPs as opposed to sequel after sequel.

The modders for games like Fallout and Elder Scrolls are perfect examples of this, those fabulous folks.

Half Life series is another big one. And those are just a handful too, there are tons of them out there constantly coming up with awesome mods!

Ouya to Release a New Console Every Year (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2415198,00.asp)

That's very cell phone-ish.

Not sure how I feel about that.

Yeah, that's kind of ridiculous. Instead of doing that and clawing at the heels of major consoles, they need to just find their own niche. The price tag is a good start.

Maybe if they just release a 45 dollars chip to cram in the shell, then you can sell the old one 20 bucks to a friend? I don't know...

Agreed. That's even worse than what the big three pull.

I would take a guess that this news alone would be able to turn off most people who thought about getting one of these to begin with.

The changes of me getting one did drop significantly. Their controller is sexy however.

If we can connect it to a computer, I might reconsider.

Script kiddies aren't real hackers ;) also why I love PC gaming someone cheats on our server me or one of the other mods / Admins ban them no waiting for Microsoft to do nothing

I just realised something. How much would the price jump for this in Australia? Video games on their own are at least 100% more usually...
