Title: Curse of Chucky (2013)
Post by: Chucky on May 29, 2013, 09:09:10 AM
So, I've been dying to see something... ANYTHING... from this new movie which is due to be released around Halloween this year. Bloody Disgusting has posted a new picture, which looks like it's from some sort of promo screener. I'm not sure why people are so shocked to see that Chucky looks similar to how he did in the first three movies before he got stitched up. I'm not sure why they were expecting a new-look Chucky. This one is, after all, a sequel... not a remake. So it would make no sense for him to look very different.

I saw that earlier. Kind of nice to have a similar look to the first three. While I did like the stitched up version, can't beat a classic. Though, I did notice that he seems a lot bigger than previous versions. May just be the angle of the picture or the size of the woman.

I dunno, in the first one, he was about the same size as Andy, so we would suspect the kid was crazy and doing the murders by himself.

If I recall correctly, Chucky's always been listed as about 2'6"-2'8" which is about half the size of the everyday woman. Looks about right, Fiona Dourif isn't a "big girl" either. I think with that and the fact she is sitting in a wheelchair makes Chucky appear to be bigger.

He looks funny without the wacky hair. [*laugh*]

Not really a complaint, I'm sure they'll fix that in the movie... just stuck out in my mind is all.

The hair looks brushed and is probably taken from his "doll form" before becoming a lot more human again since I can only assume he does indeed have a "new" body once again. But if you pay close attention to the original movie, you can really see just how much detail they put into the doll as Chucky becomes more human throughout the movie. Noticeably with his hair, you can see that it recedes as he gets older and is becoming more human. It's a shame they never quite replicated that same ageing in the other movies.

Just glad to have Brad Dourif, I was ready to rage at the news that Chucky will now be voiced by Joseph Gordon Levitt or something.

His long lost son will be played by Shia LaBeouf.

I never really realized that in the movie before... or didn't really pay attention to it. Either way, pretty interesting.

so when is this movie supposed to take place in regards to time line after part 3 or is it taking bride and seed into account?

I'm sure his movements and shit will all be computer generated, but it's cool to see a puppet prop used in a film again. Wonder when the last time that was.

They definitely won't be all computer generated, if any, because one of the first pics released was a behind the scenes shot of them with the "joystick" type of controls which were reminiscent of the original movies.

I love the doll's design. It still looks like an actual toy that could be sold, but it has a definite creepy side to it.

I guess I could watch it when it'll come out in theater.

It's not going to theatres. It's going direct to DVD/Bluray.

I dunno... that tells me that Platinum Dunes doesn't have a stake in it, which is always a good sign.

Platinum Dunes is hit and miss in my eyes. They made me appreciate the original TCM (hate it when I originally saw it.) Honestly, may have just been R. Lee Ermy that made me like it. Anyways.....

Still too early to make a judgement about this one. From what I'm lead to believe, it disregards "Bride of Chucky" and "Seed of Chucky" which may be a good thing. While mildly campy, I'm not sure "over the top" isn't what this movie needs. Stick with the basics "no big name celebrities" and it may be fine.

I liked the last 2 Chuckies, but the jokes pretty much ran their course.

Not saying there shouldn't be comedy in the new one, but Bride and Seed were over "Army of Darkness" in over the top-ness.

I was not a huge fan of the last two.  They seemed to be heading in a "Freddy's Dead" sort of direction.

I think he looks creepier in this than he ever has. Except maybe Child's Play's ending where he's all burned and fucked up.

Agreed. They did a really good job on him, color me impressed.

I too enjoy the slightly more modern look and you can see one particular scene in the trailer where his hairline is receding like in the first movie which is a good sign.

I didn't care much for the last two so disregarding them wouldn't bother me at all.

Bride is actually my second favourite in the series after 2. Seed was 50 shades of awful, though.

My main problem with the movie is the way to doll looks.  It just isn't the chucky I'm used to.  It looks more like a bad remake than a sequel.  Can someone explain to me why the change in the doll? Maybe a new makeup artist or whatever? I just don't get it
Title: Re: Curse of Chucky (2013)

The way he looks now is the way the doll is suppose to look, pre-possession. I'm sure as the movie goes on he'll start looking more like the Chucky we know.

I hope you are right, regardless its not going to stop me from seeing it.  I have enjoyed every movie so far even though the fear of chucky has slacked off a bit, I'm still a fan of how brad douriff is able to pull this character off again and again

I could only imagine that if "Good Guys" dolls are still in production that the manufacturer (in the movie) has tweaked the image of their product considering it has been many, many years since the original movie took place. Barbie dolls have gone through some design changes over the years, whilst maintaining it's general appearance... this is very much the same type of thing happening with Chucky's appearance.

Nah not at all. I just didnt like the tiny intrical changes they made to the doll. I completely understand why it's new, just didnt expect it to look like it did

New red-band trailer for Curse of Chucky which makes it look even better:

I'm so happy to see that he's gone back to biting people, it was one of my favourite things about him in the earlier movies.

Really not sure why that's a Red Band trailer considering that it's not up to par with the other Red Band Trailers I've seen (at least in terms of language and overall content.) Aside from looking really weird in some areas, I like the overall design Chucky has. Trailer looks pretty decent as well. I'll definitely give this a watch.

Yeah, it doesn't look too much like it deserves the title of being a red-band trailer but I guess it does show flashes of suffocation, electrocution, poisoning and slashing.

The Curse Of Chucky recently premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival and so far seems to be well received. IMDb's current score is 8.5/10 (which I'm sure will go down over time, and probably a little faster than most films would) and you can read the glowing review from one of the more reputable horror reviewers out there:

I watched Curse Of Chucky a couple of days ago. It was a very good entry into the series. I may even put it above Bride Of Chucky (though I'm sure most people won't). I won't spoil it for anyone else but the trailer is quite deceptive as scenes play out much differently in the movie than they appeared to play out in the trailer... which was very cool ("WHAT A TWIST!" - M Night SHamlasyuasayan).

I liked it. Definitely an improvement over Seed. Liked the freaky faces they gave Chucky in this one, and thought it was a nice touch that they cast Brad Dourif's daughter as the female protagonist. Could see this franchise picking up speed again.
