Title: American Horror Story
Post by: DrumrbaxJ on February 05, 2013, 03:06:33 AM
What do we think? And feel free to not spoil any endings, especially second season as I have not caught up since last year.

I've seen one episode at the behest of family. It seemed alright, but I think my issue with it is that I watched an episode during the middle of a season. I want to give it a watch from the start sometime.

Never got into this. It had the misfortune of coming around at the same time as the Walking Dead. Made the decision to go with TWD. I regret nothing.

You aren't capable of watching more than one show, L?
And I would encourage it Shadow, if for no other reason than it has some genuinely excellent parts and I surprised myself by actually enjoying it.

Nope, not really. I put my eggs into one basket and hope for the best. Besides, AHS has been going on too long and I don't feel like playing catch up.

Both seasons are self contained separate stories. They share actors, but not characters. So you can watch them in whichever order you want, or just watch the one without fear of missing anything.

That's a pretty interesting concept.

Makes life easier too. Write the story for one season, follow it up with a new story. Keeps it somewhat "fresh". And you can keep giving the same actors roles but give them a chance to try their hands at something different.

Love, love love the second season of American Horror Story! The first season was alright, but I just saw it after watching the second. So I might be biased  [*happy*]

I felt like the first was leagues ahead of the second. I just felt lost a lot of the time for Asylum. I knew what was going on, but it was just so "lost" for lack of a better word.

A friend of mine watches the series and recommended it, but I don't feel as though I have time to watch a horror series.

Top notch acting though, worth a watch.

Only seen the first episode, just felt odd that they used music from Insidious in this... using music from another movie felt cheap.

I knew that sounded familiar. Hmmm... Still like Insidious. I'm not afraid to admit I was actually scared at some points...

The first season's opening credits still fucks me over.

This is the show with the Nuns or something, right?

Yeah, I pretty much just watch The Walking Dead, even if I have a love-hate relationship with it.

Yeah. The second season takes place in an insane asylum run by the clergy.

What do you hate about it?

How irritating virtually every female character bar a few have been?

Well okay, I don't hate anything about it. I just don't see it as this perfect show that a lot of others do. It's a good show no doubt, but I always watch an episode and end up thinking that it could be a lot better. I wouldn't think that way if people didn't hold it to such a high standard, but they do for some reason.

Then again, my issues mostly stem from season 2 where a lot of the focus was on people bitching at eachother and likeable characters getting killed.

Oh yeah, and this.

I think Season 3 has been pretty damn good though and it may finally go from "good" show to "great" show if it keeps it up.

I never watched The Walking Dead, but how long can they keep it up? They might meet the occasional new character, old characters die off slowly, tensions run high, infighting occurs, etc.

Unless I'm missing something vital about the plot, I can't see it going on forever, and more to my point, I can't understand how it could be terribly creative and unique to view.

You spend an entire season on a farm, looking for a little girl in the woods. AN ENTIRE SEASON!

And that entire season was better than anything else on TV at the time. So yeah.  [*finger*]

Yeah, the Sophia thing didn't really hit me as hard as the writers were intending. Probably because I saw what was coming a mile away, though.

I just started watching this today.  A bit different than what I expected. I'll fill you in as I progress in the season.

If I wasn't already watching a ton of other crap, this is one of the ones I'd be watching now too. Hope you have good things to say.

I'm watching Star Trek TOS, Sherlock, Power Rangers Season 8, and just started looking at American Horror Story and Young Justice in addition to shows that I'm watching as they're released.  I'm making use of my unemployed time.

May give it a watch got plenty of free time given there is only one episode a week of TWD and I've no idea when Breaking Bad returns.

I'm almost through Season 1, though I did make a mistake (or rather, I trusted a site that I stopped visiting for being untrustworthy) and started off with the wrong season without realizing it.  So I've got about 3-4 episodes before I've finished Season 1.

I have sat down with the box set of season 1 my friend lent me and got 5 episodes in. The show has failed to win me over. The only time I was entertained was when the copycats invaded the house. Good episode and then next episode goes right back into drama crap. Does it pick up at all this season or should I quit now?

Well I guess the good thing about that is if you have a problem with one season, and all the seasons are based off of different stories, then there is always a chance that you'll like the next season.

It seems to me the horror elements are introduced more and more as the season goes on.  Halloween marks a turning point in the season.

The same person introduced me to both of these shows (I don't watch TV).  AHS didn't start until after that person had actually quit watching TWD for good.

That, and every plot that can be done with zombies has been done.  Twice.  Really the Newsflesh series was the first thing I've seen that actually made me give a crap about zombies.  The original NotLD was enjoyable, but even that had more than one thing going on to cause tension.

I LOVE AHS. I've watched every episode of every season. The first season had some mediocre episodes. De, you should DEFINITELY finish the series. I love how they parallel reality with it. One of my favorite episodes is when they bring the Black Dahlia Murder victim (Elizabeth Short) into the story. They had her character down to a 'T' (having bad teeth, seeking fame, etc). Very interesting stuff. I love the continuous nods to Amityville Horror. However, my favorite season hands down was the second. It has demonic possessions, aliens, Nazi experiments, a bizarre love triangle, a nun combating her faith, humanoid cannibals. What more can a horror fan ask for? Plus Charlie Clouser (Saw, Dead Silence, ex-Nine Inch Nails) does the score.

Season 3 was only good in the beginning, then it turned into The Craft. It was kinda lame. I'm really looking forward to this upcoming season though. American Horror Story: Freak Show. I'm actually quite surprised no one but Akasha likes it.
