Horror Talk / House of Whores (2015)
July 31, 2018, 06:05:44 AM
This is a very, shall we say, interesting flick, which ends up being moderately depraved. There are heinous and disgusting acts of torture in this short (around 45 minutes) flick, but with an overlay of slapstick comedy. There's music, jokes, and general silliness. It's an odd combination, but if you don't mind ultra-low quality films, this may be worth checking out.

Have you any opinions on House of Whores?

Horror Talk / Slaughter Hotel (1971)
July 29, 2018, 12:45:10 AM
Despite a potentially fun plot, this Italian flick, originally titled La bestia uccide a sangue freddo, ends up being both repetitive and rather dull. Sure, if nudity's your thing, then this movie might be right up your alley, but given the weakness of most of the kills, along with the sluggish pace, I just couldn't give it much higher than below average.

What are your feelings on this giallo/softcore porno?

Horror Talk / The Monster Maker (1944)
July 29, 2018, 12:43:47 AM
Having seen this movie multiple times (I believe this was my fourth), I can't help but feel, while it does what it set out to do, it's not really stellar or worth-watching in any way. Certainly, you could do worse from the same era of horror, but when it's all said and done, this movie is, at best, just average.

Horror Talk / The Slumber Party Massacre (1982)
July 27, 2018, 03:53:45 AM
A low-key slasher classic, there's not that much to really say about this film. It has some decent gore, fun nudity, occasionally interesting characters, and moderately enjoyable kills. It's a quick-paced flick, one to pop in, grab some snacks, and enjoy. Nothing too deep, The Slumber Party Massacre is an early 80's flick that does what it needs to, nothing more, nothing less.

Horror Talk / Hour of the Wolf (1968)
July 27, 2018, 03:51:08 AM
Vargtimmen (or Hour of the Wolf) is a Swedish classic that consistently gets high ratings, even today. As a psychological nightmare, it's certainly a solid film. But as a horror movie that one goes into for enjoyment, it doesn't quite stand up. Hour of the Wolf is a Bergman classic, and it's probably worth a view, but if you're not that into experimental films, or movies that don't have much cohesion, I might recommend something else.

Horror Talk / End of Days (1999)
July 25, 2018, 11:01:15 PM
This movie is probably fine if you're generally into this kind of stuff, but after seeing it twice, I just don't dig it. Far too much action thrown in, in my view. Might be a good viewing if you like Schwarzenegger, but otherwise, I don't really see how this would appeal to anyone.

Horror Talk / Hostel: Part II (2007)
July 25, 2018, 10:57:49 PM
While the first movie is pretty good already, the second Hostel expands a bit on the torture organization, and keeps the gore strong. Despite a few subplots and characters I didn't care for, I thought that this film was pretty strong.

Horror Talk / Buried Alive (1990)
July 21, 2018, 04:32:34 AM
Because it's a television movie, Buried Alive is pretty tame, all things considered. Still, there's a very solid cast here, which makes the sometimes hokey story a lot more enjoyable. This isn't an amazing movie, but I do think that it's very serviceable, and would certainly recommend it for a rainy night.

This isn't necessarily a bad flick, but it's paper-thin plot doesn't really do much for me, and the excessive nudity, while occasionally fun, doesn't add a whole lot to the story. Kudos to the director for the more creative portions, and the controversial ending is certainly unique, but this film strikes me as one that you need only see once.

Have you any thoughts on this Dustin Mills' flick?

Horror Talk / The Manster (1959)
July 19, 2018, 12:02:18 AM
While not amazing, I think this flick (despite the horrible title) is actually pretty serviceable, in terms of how well it does for the era. There are much better late 50's horror movies, but The Manster is pretty competent in most of what it sets out to do. It's held back by a few too many chase scenes, though. Otherwise, it may well be worth a watch.

Horror Talk / Don't Breathe (2016)
July 18, 2018, 11:40:19 PM
Despite a lot of hype when this came out, I don't think this flick is that amazing. Is it a good way to spend an hour and a half? Sure - there's plenty of tension and a few gross-out scenes to keep your attention throughout. But is it worth much more than that? Not in my view.

Horror Talk / Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010)
July 14, 2018, 02:58:01 AM
If you the horror-comedy type, you really can't do wrong here. Likeable characters, a surprisingly deeper story, and some damn good gore, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil is certainly an enjoyable watch.

Horror Talk / House of Purgatory (2016)
July 13, 2018, 05:09:32 PM
This flick takes a somewhat used-up plot and really breathes some life into it, giving us a pretty interesting and enjoyable final product. While the biggest problem is the ending, which didn't really make much sense, it's still a film I'd recommend giving at least one go, because I thought that this stood out well.

Horror Talk / Hate Crime (2012)
July 11, 2018, 03:56:23 AM
There are certainly some shocking scenes within this film, some moderately hard to watch, but given that this movie is almost purely three Neo-Nazis tormenting a family, there's not that much story here. Also, the ending annoyed the hell out of me. For a found footage, it's pretty okay, but I can't imagine wanting to see this a second time.

Horror Talk / Jurassic Attack (2013)
July 11, 2018, 03:47:43 AM
Atrocious CGI dinosaurs and blood combined with terrible actors is what you'll get should you watch this film. In some ways, it certainly can be fun to turn off your mind and just sit back and bask in it's atrocity, but I'd not really recommend it.

Horror Talk / The Bat Whispers (1930)
July 11, 2018, 03:36:36 AM
One of the earliest-surviving talki horror films, The Bat Whispers stands up extraordinarily well. From multiple suspicious parties to fantastic camera angles to plenty of fun characters, there's very little this old dark house film gets wrong. A classic of the 1930's, this film is highly recommended, if you can find a good copy.

Horror Talk / In a Dark Place (2006)
July 11, 2018, 03:18:24 AM
This flick has a certain charm to it, but it's not really all that memorable a movie. It's sort of grown on me in recent times, but despite that, you can certainly tell this movie possesses failed potential. The ending, which brings some things together, is sort of meh, but really, this movie's far more mediocre than it is bad, and might be worth at least one view.

Horror Talk / Green Room (2015)
July 11, 2018, 03:04:04 AM
Green Room is a pretty thrilling film with a rather intense plot. Patrick Stewart does well in his role, and we get plenty of gory scenes throughout. That all said, I couldn't shake the feeling that this film wouldn't be all that memorable, so while it's a good film, it's around average and not much more.

Horror Talk / Earth vs. the Spider (1958)
July 11, 2018, 02:36:10 AM
Though often considered a poor man's Tarantula (1955), I think that this flick has a lot of heart, and despite some of the failures in special effects (those webs look a lot like ropes, truth be told), I've always gotten a kick out of this film, no matter how many times I've seen it.

Horror Talk / The Harvesting (2015)
July 11, 2018, 02:26:25 AM
Despite a solid twist at the end, for the most part, The Harvesting is a dull and oft-told tale that brought almost no real portions of interest. I'd say it was a slow-burn, but the ending, as much as I liked it, didn't justify sitting through the first hour. Maybe worth one view, but certainly not worth buying.

What do you think the Harvesting reaps?
