Horror Talk / The Horror of It All (1964)
November 21, 2018, 06:59:01 AM
While certainly not an amazing movie by any stretch, I found this a lot more amusing and comedically snappy than I would have expected. It even comes with a catchy musical number sang by Boone. Certainly more pros than cons to this one if you're a fan of 60's horror.

Other Movies / Entertaining Mr. Sloane (1970)

This British comedy (with mild horror elements toward the conclusion) takes the right type of person to attract. I found the humor juxtaposed by being amusing and nutty yet totally unrelated. Still, if dry British comedies are your thing, this might be worth a go. If horror is your main interest, though, I'd not recommend this one.

Horror Talk / Island of Lost Souls (1932)
November 14, 2018, 08:53:47 AM
Though certainly a classic of the genre, and a pretty fun and suspenseful ride throughout, I don't absolutely love this flick. Still, it contains brutality before it's time, and it's suitably creepy at times. If you're a fan of classic horror, you can't really go wrong here.

Horror Talk / Backwoods (1987)
November 13, 2018, 10:54:13 AM
Despite being one of the few horror movies filmed in Indiana (a state I've dwelled in most of my life), Backwoods relies far too much on uninteresting drama as opposed to solid horror. It picks up a bit toward the end, and we do get a decent scene or two, but overall, I think this one would disappoint many people who look into it.

Horror Talk / Grave Halloween (2013)
November 10, 2018, 08:39:55 AM
There's basically no reason to go out of your way to watch this flick, which is rather uninspired and pretty pointless. The setting is creepy, but the whole film reeks of mediocrity, and I can't say there's much value to be found here.

Horror Talk / Plaga Zombie (1997)
November 03, 2018, 09:10:25 AM
This film has great gore, for the budget, even amazing gore. The problem is, this Argentina flick has little else. It's mainly a repetitive bloody brawl with zombies, and it doesn't take long for the film to become too ridiculous or dull. Great gore, but nothing else to really draw me in.

Horror Talk / Things (1989)
November 01, 2018, 11:36:36 AM
Things is an inept, illogical mess that gets almost nothing right. It almost defies explanation as to how bad the film is. Unless you see it, experience it, you'll never know what it's really like. Bring a lot of beer and weed if you do, though, and some friends, as without them, you might come out of this one hating yourself and everything in existence. Decent gore, though.

Horror Talk / The Midnight Meat Train (2008)
November 01, 2018, 04:55:12 AM
I think that the gore in the film is probably the biggest point that'd draw audience members in. It's a solid story, both interesting and, at times, suspenseful, and many of the main performances were pretty good. It was occasionally a bit too CGI-heavy at times, but other than that, I think this is a pretty solid adaptation of a Clive Barker story.

Horror Talk / Don't Deliver Us from Evil (1971)
October 19, 2018, 05:35:52 PM
Despite some great performances from the two main actresses and a really solid ending, this slow-burn was just a bit too aimless for me to truly care for. While it might be a more effective film should you be religious, this French movie just wasn't something I'd go out of my way to see again.

Horror Talk / Demon Warrior (1988)
October 17, 2018, 09:45:27 AM
This cheesy demonic slasher might carry with it some charm, but there's far too high a drama:horror ratio. The kills were okay, but a bit uninspired. The ending, though, was cheese galore. Still, this isn't really a film that I'd go out of my way to see again.

Other Movies / 2019: After the Fall of New York (1983)
October 17, 2018, 09:36:09 AM
Want a fun Italian romp, complete with ass-kicking dwarfs, cyborgs, damn good gore, and action scenes galore? Look no further - this movie delivers. A very solid movie, I can't imagine any horror fan watching this and being disappointed.

Horror Talk / Stickman (2017)
October 14, 2018, 11:58:16 AM
While not dripping in creativity, and with some obvious flaws, Stickman still stands out as one of SyFy's better films. I think if you're the more forgiving type, you could get some enjoyment out of this. I'd just recommend not going in with expectations too high.

Horror Talk / Encounter with the Unknown (1972)
October 14, 2018, 12:35:56 AM
Encounter with the Unknown is a low budget anthology with no gore, jump scares, or nudity. A family friendly, yet fun film, this movie can be a bit of a treat if you like the low-key vibe of 70's horror. Not sure if I'm alone in this, but I think this regional film was one worth watching.

Horror Talk / Don't Go in the Woods (2010)
October 09, 2018, 06:57:06 AM
I doubt that this film would appeal to most horror fans, due to the fact it's more a musical than a horror film. Which I thought was interesting, despite it not being done particularly well. And that plot twist was ridiculously obvious. Still, I think Don't Go in the Woods has some charm, and while I might be the only one who sees it, there you go.

Horror Talk / Murder by the Clock (1931)
October 07, 2018, 12:07:02 AM
While I didn't love Murder by the Clock as much as I did when I last saw it, I still think it's a pretty overlooked classic, undeservingly so. There's a fun story, pretty good gothic atmosphere, and solid performances throughout. As a fan of 30's horror, you have a lot to look forward in this movie, despite it not necessarily being a film that will blow you away.

Other Movies / King of the Wild (1931)
October 03, 2018, 12:30:20 PM
This serial, like many serials, often feels as though it's dragging and dragging, and the multiple cliff-hangers, which are so easily dispatched with, got somewhat old quick. No doubt there was some fun to be had here, and there were some entertaining sequences, but given the length of this adventure/action serial, it's not something I'd go out of my way to recommend (Boris Karloff would be the best selling point, I'd wager).

Have you set eyes upon this serial?

Horror Talk / The Attic (2007)
October 02, 2018, 11:28:21 PM
The Attic has a very obvious straight-to-video feel, and leans more on superficial jump scares than it does outright horror (there was a solid throat-slitting, at the very least). Most of the enjoyment comes from Moss's (of The West Wing fame) performance, and the story itself is somewhat interesting.

Horror Talk / Delirium (2018)
September 30, 2018, 07:51:55 AM
Watched this as a recommendation, and overall, I thought it made a decent watch. Quality performances and suspense throughout, the main problem with Delirium being that the ending didn't hold the punch I was looking forward to. By all means a movie that's still worth a look, for me, it ended up being just above average.

Horror Talk / The Eerie Midnight Horror Show (1974)
September 26, 2018, 10:44:49 AM
This Italian Exorcist rip-off has some pretty interesting and wild sequences during the first thirty to forty minutes, but the last two-thirds of the film goes down a predictable and rather dull path. Despite sometimes having fun with the dialogue, the dubbing, and solid sequences, this film isn't really worth looking too hard for.

Horror Talk / Hellraiser: Inferno (2000)
September 24, 2018, 02:30:37 AM
The fifth Hellraiser film takes an entirely different, far more psychological approach, on the series. Honestly, despite the Cenobites looking just as bland as they have for the past two films, it doesn't as negatively impact here as it did before. The story is somewhat interesting, though nonsensical at times, and none of the acting is subpar (though as this is a straight-to-video movie, perhaps that could be excused), but having seen this multiple times, I still have some fun with it. Controversial opinion, to be sure, but I think Inferno is a better film than both Hell on Earth and Bloodline.
