Horror Talk / Hatchet (2006)
March 26, 2018, 03:36:47 PM
Marred by too much humor and idiotic characters, Hatchet still manages to harken back to the golden day of slashers well enough to warrant at least one view.

What did you think of this movie?

Some homeboys of mine on HMF took time out of their lives to watch this, and gave off much the same sentiment.

Unlike The Ritual, this is probably not one I'll ever take the time to watch. [*hehehmm*]

Sounds moderately fun - I rather liked The Blair Witch Project, and thought the stick scene was creepy, so if this is even half as effect, it might be worth taking the time to check out.

Here is a lengthy, incredibly-detailed review of this movie, which is definitely worth the read.

I get that many of you may not be all that interested in a flick this old, but this is history in the making. [*thumbsup*]

Horror Talk / The Student of Prague (1913)

Widely considered the first full-length horror movie ever released (including by yours truly), this German movie stands up well to this day (providing you have the most complete print), and doesn't drag or plod along. While the story itself isn't necessarily enthralling, and there are plenty of other better and more enjoyable silent horror movies from Germany alone, Der Student von Prag is a very solid film any fan of early cinema should give a shot.

Have you witnessed the birth of full-length horror cinema?

Horror Talk / The Lights (2009)
March 25, 2018, 01:01:14 AM
There's very little that stands out in this 2009 slasher flick, save for occasional good kills and moderately solid acting (from some of the characters). Though niche, seeing a familiar face from the game show Survivor was at least a nice touch.

What did you think of this forgettable slasher flick?

Horror Talk / Krampus (2015)
March 24, 2018, 04:42:01 AM
Earning $16.3 million it's opening weekend, Krampus had widespread success due to a combination of it's somewhat unique story, solid actors, bleak atmosphere, and comedy that's not overdone. While not without flaws, and not even my favorite Christmas-themed horror comedy, Krampus is a fun watch.

What were your thoughts on this Christmas-themed horror movie?

Horror Talk / The Dark (1993)
March 24, 2018, 04:32:41 AM
While the story isn't one that's overly creative, the actors throughout this film really make it worth at least one go-around. Certainly lower budget, but there's still some fun to be had.

Have you seen this early 90's horror flick?

I feel that even though our ratings aren't really equivalent (your 6/10 is higher than my 6/10, I believe), we both basically got the same reaction from this film.

Not a terrible flick, but more or less meh across the board.

Very solid kills, overall, though.

From all accounts (my brother deeply enjoys the game), I've heard it's pretty solid.

Probably my favorite Impetigo song. Short and sweet, cannibal flick-inspired lyrics. This is goregrind I can get behind.

From the video game Alan Wake, which I've not played, but still, I enjoy this song (especially the chorus).

Horror Talk / Re: Cube (1997)

I don't think I even mentioned the death scenes in my review, but indeed, they were almost all quite solid.

The sequel Hypercube, while somewhat enjoyable (I have a review written for that I'll post later on), it really lacked on good kills.

Certainly can't go wrong with the first movie, in my view. Even if it's not your cup of tea (and it easily may not be), I'd recommend refreshing your memory of it regardless.

Cube is just a bitchin' movie, overall.

While certainly some flaws are present, Cube has always been a fun and claustrophobic flick. While the ending might be inclined to annoy some, I personally thought it worked out well.

Have you seen this science-fiction/horror hybrid?
