Video Games / Re: Jack Bauer is now Solid Snake
June 09, 2013, 08:11:24 AM
Didn't particularly care for Metal Gear Solid 3. Thought Peace Walker was way better. But yeah, everyone's known Kiefer was Snake since GDC a couple months ago. Kojima was merely confirming it at the Konami Pre-E3 thing. What's more puzzling is that Kojima replaced Hayter, the American voice actor of Snake/Big Boss, but not the Japanese voice actor.

Hayter's in good company, though as Kevin Conroy also got the shaft for Arkham Origins. They now join Michael Ironside who was Sam Fisher in Splinter Cell.  [*no*]

The Friday remake was alright. Better than the new Freddy.

The bar was much lower than the Nightmare remake, but they didn't trip over it and make it catch fire.
I dunno. I went into both wanting to hate them (more so the Elm Street remake due to the original being my favorite movie) but didn't really hate them. That's not to say that I thought they were good movies, because they weren't. But they weren't terrible either. Both played it fairly safe in what they did, Elm Street more than Friday.

so they have 5 years to make up something good... mmmh...
Nope. Five years to make as many Friday the 13th films as possible. Wouldn't say any of them have been good. Entertaining sure, but not good. But people that watch the films aren't looking for something good. They're looking for a body count and to enjoy the creative ways in which Jason offs dumb teenagers.

Since we're on the subject of Jason, it seems that Paramount once again has the rights to the Friday the 13th series and there will be a sequel to the remake from 09. Catch is, they only have the rights for five years before they revert back to Warner Bros. What this all means, I suppose, is that we should get ready for another 9 Friday the 13th films.

When it was said that wind was an indication of when shit was going to go down, I laughed every time hair and trees were blowing in the wind and the characters were "safe." Obviously you can't control nature, which is why it makes a terrible "killer."

I think it's quite natural to enjoy something as a kid and then find it meh or hate it when you're older... you have more tolerance for shitty movies when you're young and when you get old you hate everything and everyone.
That's pretty much the case. Though, there are some exceptions. For example, I still love "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?"

The Crow

I absolutely LOVED this movie as a kid. Then I saw it recently and I was numb. There were some great moments (I find Ernie Hudson to be the only likeable character in the movie and "There ain't no coming back" scene) other than that, the Crow fucking blows. It tries waaaay too hard to take itself serious despite the fact that just about everyone in it is chewing scenery. People thought this movie would have launched Brandon Lee into super stardom had he not died during the making of it, but after watching it again, he likely would have wound up in another crappy direct to video movie with Dolph Lundgren.

It's so bad, it's hilarious. Not quite on par with the Room or Birdemic, but it's up there.

I've never been a Shyamalan fan. Thought the Sixth Sense was overrated and any other film of his I watched was due to being dragged to the theater by friends or watching them with Rifftrax and laughing at just how ridiculous his movies are. The fact that people are still allowing him to make movies when they've gradually gotten worse is astounding.

Well, Freddy's pee-pee is probably all burned off, so prostate stimulation would work better for him.
And Jason is a zombie, so limbs are bound to rot off eventually.

Why the fuck are we having this conversation?

Indeed, Harper was known as Brodie Lee on the Indy scene. In Chikara, he had a pretty epic cage match with Claudio Castagnoli (Antonio Cesaro.) He is pretty much the typical big guy, but that's not a bad thing considering he does it well.

Sami Zayn, one of El Generico's orphans, made it to the WWE and he's freakin' amazing! He learned a lot from his mentor.

Kinda funny. He wrestled twice in one night upon his debut. Once against Hawkins, then accepting Cesaro's open challenge (which was also Cesaro's second match of the night.) While their match was good and got great reviews, I hear the match they had at the next set of tapings was even better.

Also, anyone else as hyped as I am that Bray Wyatt is finally getting called up to the main roster? Dude's got a phenomenal gimmick going on and is fantastic on the microphone. He's also pretty damn good in the ring to boot. Who'd have thought a guy that used to be known as Husky Harris (who was arguably the weak link of the Nexus, if you don't count Mason "Welsh Batista" Ryan) would turn out to be so fucking entertaining?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he doesn't simply because every time I see him post on FB, it's something super hipster-ish and as far as I know, hipsters don't draw comics.......MAAAAAAAAAAAAAN.

I really don't plan on seeing this one to be completely honest. I was never a big Iron Man fan and I'm probably in the minority when I say that I enjoyed the second film better than the first. Even then, I didn't think it was a great movie. RDJ is fun to watch in the role, though I think he's more fun to watch in the Sherlock Holmes films.

I pretty much expect Spoony to hate any movie that comes out lately.  He'll nitpick the shit out of all of it.  And I have to give it to Spoony that he pointed out some flaws in the movie that I hadn't seen.
Spoony's turned into quite the curmudgeon recently. He pretty much bashes everything and if people don't instantly agree with him, he berates them.

Considering it took a group of people to take Freddy down in FvJ and he was perceived as a bigger threat than Jason (you know, the guy that murdered said group of people's friends with little to no effort) and Freddy smacked Jason around for a good 10 minutes, I'd say that it's Jason that takes it up the ass.

That being said, is this some kind of ploy to try and get one of us to comment on the new Jason banner on the top of the page?

More questions:

1) What is the most memorable reoccurring dream you've ever had?
I'm sure I dream, but as soon as my eyes open, no memory of them. Really, the way I sleep can be compared to blacking out. Lights go out and nada.
