Horror Talk / Stung (2015)
May 22, 2018, 10:07:30 AM
While it had the potential to be an enjoyable comedy/horror mix, and the two main characters were decently done, Stung just fell flat really early on, and kept the same underwhelming feel throughout. Not really a movie I'd much recommend.

Sure, the actors may not be at their best in this movie, and the designs for the new Cenobites are utterly atrocious, but the biggest problem Hellraiser III has is, despite it's connections to the first two movies, it's entirely different in tone. Replacing the strong epic fantasy feeling of the second movie with cheesy lines and some pretty bad CGI, this movie, while not necessarily bad, is likely a disappointment to fans of the original two.

What did you think about the third Hellraiser film?

Horror Talk / Maciste in Hell (1925)
May 19, 2018, 10:39:25 PM
On of the earliest Italian horror movies (with strong fantasy and action also), the one word that can best describe Maciste all'inferno is fun. It's a fun movie, with all-out brawls taking place in the bowels of Hell, some great special effects that still entertain to this day, and with the right print, a digestible length, even if silent films aren't typically your thing.

Have you seen this early Italian flick?

Horror Talk / Black Rock (2012)
May 17, 2018, 07:02:56 AM
Black Rock, after just around twenty minutes or so, begins dragging, and that doesn't really bode well. The story's fine, and the characters feel real, but when everything's said and done, this movie is a bit below average. Might be worth one viewing, but probably no more than that.

What feelings did Black Rock elicit in you?

Horror Talk / Fear Island (2009)
May 17, 2018, 06:47:40 AM
Fear Island's biggest sin is that the story's presentation (an unreliable narrator) is far from original, and has been done better (both in the genre and not). It's not a necessarily bad movie, but I think that, all things considered, it's pretty bland and forgettable.

Horror Talk / Pray for Morning (2006)
May 15, 2018, 04:57:33 AM
Pray for Morning is an interesting film that occasionally dabbles in some experimental camera-work, but the story is sort of bland, and the lower budget certainly didn't help. The biggest problems, though, are the characters are given little distinguishing features, along with a plot twist toward the end that didn't much make sense.

Have you seen this film, and if so, what did you think?

Horror Talk / The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
May 15, 2018, 04:44:56 AM
While this remake certainly has some solid gore and settings, I just couldn't shake how bland I felt it was. Might be worth seeing, but even though I'm not a big fan of the original, I'd much recommend that one.

What did you think of this remake of the classic?

Horror Talk / Wishmaster (1997)
May 09, 2018, 04:49:20 AM
Wishmaster has a B-movie atmosphere, which I really think helps it go a long way. Most of the actors and actresses do well (and as horror fans, we get plenty of characters to root for, such as Tony Todd), but the shining light of the film are the special effects, most of which still look pretty damn good.

What did you think of this late 1990's addition to the horror genre?

Horror Talk / Son of Ingagi (1940)
May 09, 2018, 04:36:53 AM
An overly generic and forgettable experience, for the most part, Son of Ingagi doesn't really have much going for it, aside from the fact it's one of the earliest all-African American movies. There's occasionally some good atmosphere, and funny lines to boot, but overall, this movie just doesn't cut it.

Horror Talk / Waxworks (1924)
May 09, 2018, 04:29:10 AM
An inconsistent tone holding it back, this German anthology film feels much weaker than it should. Certainly some fun can be found within, but it's not my go-to insofar as silent horror films are concerned.

Horror Talk / Cube Zero (2004)
May 07, 2018, 06:54:23 AM
Flawed in many ways, this prequel to Cube shows us a new perspective, and brings to light some interesting, albeit it entirely unanswered, questions about the society these characters live in. Aside from Michael Riley's Jax, everyone does reasonably okay, but this movie is certainly missing something the first one had. At the very least, it's marginally better than Hypercube.

Horror Talk / Warning Shadows (1923)
May 07, 2018, 06:44:28 AM
Originally Schatten - Eine nächtliche Halluzination, this German flick is very moody and atmospheric, but the fact that it attempts to tell it's story without the use of intertitles does cause the film to drag a bit. Story, score, most of the actors, all of that is fun, but given the film does drag, I find it a bit below average.

Have you seen this silent German film?

Horror Talk / The Stripper Ripper (2017)
May 03, 2018, 02:11:08 AM
Far too slapstick for me to enjoy, The Stripper Ripper has heart, and you could tell that the cast had a blast making it, but from scenes that just dragged on too long and an utter lack of consistent laughs to be had, this just felt moderately torturous.

Part-documentary, part-dramatized sequences, Haxan is a movie that is like to stick with you for some time. While portions occasionally feel as though they're dragging, Haxan is certainly a film to seek out, especially if you want to experience something a little different.

Horror Talk / The Chanting (2006)
May 01, 2018, 04:44:34 AM
This Indonesian flick, when all is said and done, comes out around average. Many of the death scenes are a bit dated (even for 2006), but there's still a certain appeal to them. Some elements of the movie didn't really do much for me, also.  If you want a taste of foreign horror, though, you could do worse than this.

Have you seen this Indonesian horror movie?

Horror Talk / Pet (2016)
May 01, 2018, 04:35:52 AM
Pet took an interesting turn about thirty minutes into the movie, which you could sort of tell was coming, but it still worked out well. The problem is, past that point, the movie really just goes down a very predictable path. Still an okay movie, and I feel it's around average, but others would probably like it more.

Horror Talk / Mikey (1992)
April 29, 2018, 10:30:58 PM
While certainly enjoyable to an extent, Mikey's biggest drawback is that it's moderately unremarkable. Some great actors and actresses, along with some solid deaths, makes it a movie somewhat worth watching, but it probably won't be a movie you happen to remember.

Horror Talk / Salem's Lot (2004)
April 28, 2018, 05:03:15 AM
This television adaptation is a pretty fun time, overall. It's lengthy, but decently worth it. Having not seen the 1977 version, I can't really compare the two, but I can say that I had a good time.

What did you think of this King adaptation?

Horror Talk / The Lesson (2015)
April 28, 2018, 04:57:15 AM
Though the beginning is heavy in drama and may come across as meandering, I think this UK flick really worked out. Humanizing the characters before having them tortured was a nice touch, as was the epilogue. There are a few scenes and subplots that I didn't care for, but overall, The Lesson is worth a view, I feel.

What say you on this British flick?

Horror Talk / HauntedWeen (1991)
April 26, 2018, 08:33:05 AM
While possessing some unmemorable characters and a few uninspired kills, this low-budget Kentucky-based slasher has a lot of heart. Toward the end, scenes manage to get more tense, and despite the flaws, HauntedWeen just seems to work out.

What did you think about this early 90's slasher?
