I've never seen Lair of the White Worm - heard some mixed things, though.

What did you think?

And Bates Motel, assuming you mean the 1987 one, was a strange flick. Went all over the place, and the ending was so, so, so corny. I rather enjoyed it, though.

Horror Talk / The Severed Arm (1973)
September 03, 2018, 07:43:26 AM
Though little-spoken about, The Severed Arm is a pretty solid proto-slasher. Certainly it's a bit dry at times (name 70's horror flicks that weren't), but the story is pretty fun, and the film possessed a solid atmosphere along with a rather enjoyable, if not prolonged, finale.

Have you seen this early 70's film?

I've not seen any of Ittenbach's works (I know the name, and briefly confused him with Andreas Schnaas), but this definitely seems an interesting time.

Hell, even if the movie as a whole doesn't do it for me (ghost flicks aren't generally my go-to thing), the beginning sounds pretty epic.

Pray tell, anything like The Loved Ones (2009)? Getting a somewhat similar vibe, at least from what I sense of the film.

Regardless, this sounds like one that I might actually enjoy. [*thumbsup*]

Horror Talk / Hellraiser: Bloodline (1996)
September 02, 2018, 12:06:03 AM
Despite this film's ambitions, or perhaps because of them, the final product comes across as both a bit of a mess and also somewhat soulless. After seeing this multiple times, I still fail to gain pleasure from it, and despite the many flaws with the third film, I'd watch that again over Bloodline any day.

What are your thoughts on the fourth Hellraiser flick?

Horror Talk / Are We the Waiting (2017)
September 01, 2018, 05:50:35 AM
Out of Michael Taylor Pritt's four films, I think his third (this flick) is the worst one. Which isn't too say it's bad, just a bit uninspired. I'd recommend his other three flicks before Are We the Waiting, but if you're just looking for a low-budget, fun time, there's no harm in popping this into your DVD player.

What are your thoughts on this slasher?

Horror Talk / Re: Cut and Run (1985)

Indeed - it's been on my "to-see" list for years (and I mean years - I started the list back in 2009, and that was one of the original movies on it), just haven't gotten to it. In part, it's because I've been trying to watch the cannibal movies in order of release, which is why I started with Man from Deep River.

Not sure I'm expecting to like Cannibal Holocaust when I do see it, but it will certainly be nice after all this time.

Only thing I've seen of Deodato's has been Ultimo mondo cannibale (1977), also known as Jungle Holocaust. I liked Sergio Martino's La montagna del dio cannibale (1978), or Mountain of the Cannibal God, more.

At least both of the above movies were better than the founder of the sub-genre, Il paese del sesso selvaggio (1972), or Man from Deep River. Talk about a movie that's hard to get through.

That said, this film is one I've known about for quite some time, so I'm happy to see that it appears a decent flick.

Horror Talk / Re: Cathy's Curse (1977)

This is where we might differ slightly. I don't really mind rough quality for 70's flicks - I think it adds some charm to the film, and makes me feel as though it's the 70's and I'm at some drive-in.

Still, looking at those pictures, it certainly looks better than what you'd get from Mill Creek Entertainment. Of course, that's not hard to do.  [*laugh*]

If and when you do check out this movie, I hope you have at least a little fun with it. [*thumbsup*]

I'm not that big into fantasy itself (aside from The Princess Bride), but god, does this sound awful. Thanks for taking the bullet.  [*hehehmm*]

Horror Talk / Something Beneath (2007)
August 27, 2018, 02:29:22 AM
This flick's story is pretty mediocre, and for the most part, the special effects aren't all that. There is some charm to this film, though (and as I've now seen it three times, I'm seeing it more). It doesn't make up for the generic plot or atrocious ending, but some of the key performances in the film add just enough zest to allow the movie to not end up a complete failure.

What did you think about this science-fiction/horror hybrid?

Horror Talk / Cathy's Curse (1977)
August 27, 2018, 02:25:15 AM
Cathy's Curse can come across as a bit of a mess, especially since the most common version of the film isn't in the best quality. Even so, after seeing it multiple times, I think it's a decently fun movie, which some occasionally amusing actors and moderately well-done scenes toward the end. By no means an amazing movie, this 70's flick is one that I think, given the chance, many might end up enjoying.

Have you any thoughts on this 70's movie?

Heard about this movie probably back when it came out. An acquaintance of mine rather liked it, but after your review, I sort of get the feeling it probably wouldn't be for me.

Bad Dreams is an amazing movie. Seen it three or four times. When I rewatch it (whenever that may be), it's probably at least getting an 8/10 for me, if not higher.

1988 was a very solid year for horror, and this is one of the reasons.
