Horror Talk / The Nameless (1999)
September 04, 2019, 06:13:30 PM
While I appreciate some things about this film, such as the mystery and the occasionally high levels of violence, having seen this twice, I've consistently felt underwhelmed. I wish more background was delved into, and as the movie stands, I don't think it's that great or particularly memorable.

What are your thoughts on this independent Spanish movie?

Horror Talk / The Swarm (1978)
September 01, 2019, 11:39:59 PM
Despite the fact that The Swarm runs two-and-a-half hours, I find the movie rather worth it. There are some segments that don't really feel like they fit in, but otherwise, the cast is strong, the disaster-feel great, and there's a lot to like here.

Horror Talk / Chromeskull: Laid to Rest 2 (2011)

Yeah, this sequel is pretty poor and certainly nothing compared to the first film, despite some decently solid gore.

What do you think about this rather underwhelming movie?

Horror Talk / The Amityville Horror (2005)
August 27, 2019, 07:37:45 AM
While the first time I saw this I might have liked it, seeing this remake again really showed how stale and Hollywood the whole thing was. There were some decent scenes and performances, no doubt, but the movie as a whole definitely fell below average.

Have any thoughts on this remake?

Horror Talk / What Keeps You Alive (2018)
August 25, 2019, 11:43:43 PM
The problems that keep this film from fulfilling it's potential are twofold, one being the unnecessary final twenty minutes, and two, regrettably idiotic choices by one of the characters, which just leaves you screaming at the screen. Otherwise, this movie was filmed well, and carries a few surprises, but the elongated ending felt pointless, and as such, I just find the movie average.

What are your opinions on What Keeps You Alive?

Horror Talk / The Little Shop of Horrors (1960)
August 25, 2019, 11:36:39 PM
While occasionally a bit too goofy, this 60's movie is something of a Corman classic, and if you can stand the lower budget and silliness, you might have fun. I'd recommend watching it in the original black-and-white, but there are colored versions also.

What do you think about this campy classic?

Horror Talk / Summer of 84 (2018)
August 25, 2019, 11:00:40 PM
While I love much about this film, from the suspenseful scenes to the 80's retro music, I don't think it's as memorable as it should be. The movie's quite solid, but it doesn't really stick with you after watching it, and having seen it twice, while I recommend it, I don't think it's the best film from the last year at all.

What are your thoughts on this stylistic flick?

Toward the end of the film, they explain a bit more than they really need to, which sort of hurts the mysterious feel that worked well in the first film, and much of this one. It felt unnecessary, and while otherwise the second in this proposed trilogy is decent, the ending just rubs me the wrong way.

What are your thoughts on this sequel?

Horror Talk / The House by the Cemetery (1981)
August 21, 2019, 07:33:29 PM
The main problem with this Fulci entry isn't entirely unexpected, being the somewhat incoherent plot the film sometimes pushes. The gore is, of course, fantastic (the bat attack, in particular, was cheesy fun), but I couldn't get over some of the unexplained subplots, and that brought the film down a bit for me.

What do you think about this Fulci entry to the genre?

Horror Talk / 7eventy 5ive (2007)
August 19, 2019, 04:36:23 AM
Yeah, this is a pretty generic slasher with little going for it aside from a cute Latina chick (Aimee Garcia) and an interesting plot twist. Virtually none of the kills were memorable, though, and the execution of the twist lacked something. This one had potential, but it didn't quite make it. Certainly a below-average flick, I wouldn't recommend this one.

Horror Talk / Dominique (1979)
August 19, 2019, 04:31:01 AM
Yeah, this British film boasted a decent story, but it's been done before, and it's been done better. This was a stuffy, and pretty uninspired, and certainly not worth watching, despite a few okay scenes.

What are your thoughts on this dry British flick?

Horror Talk / Apostle (2018)
August 19, 2019, 04:26:47 AM
Despite the runtime of two hours and ten minutes, Apostle never feels like it's dragging, and the story's engrossing enough to really pull you in. The story's fantastic, the gore is great, and the ending is decently interesting in it's approach.

Horror Talk / Truth or Double Dare (TODD) (2018)
August 19, 2019, 04:11:20 AM
The story's competent, but it's been done before in better movies, such as Most Likely to Die (2015) and Don't Go to the Reunion (2013), and this one feels a lot more soulless as opposed to those other films. The production's fine, but it felt soulless, and I can't really forgive that.

What are your thoughts on this slasher?

Horror Talk / The Terror (1938)
August 15, 2019, 06:41:52 AM
Were it not for some rapid-fire British accents, I think I'd like The Terror a lot more. Even now, the story is perfectly enjoyable, the ghostly monk is always appreciated, and the characters are generally fun. But some of the dialogue is hard to make up, especially given the quality of the print isn't great, so that causes some issues.

Horror Talk / Cucuy: The Boogeyman (2018)
August 15, 2019, 06:39:37 AM
One of the better Syfy films of recent times, Cucuy: The Boogeyman has a lot going for it. Solid characters, a decent story, even a somewhat interesting conclusion, this movie isn't nearly as bad as one might expect from a Syfy original.

Horror Talk / Vampyr (1932)
August 15, 2019, 06:36:46 AM
Vampyr has solid style but little comprehension. Often called a classic, I never really have cared for this one, though I admit it had potential.

What are your thoughts on this early 30's flick?

Horror Talk / The Mist (2007)
August 15, 2019, 06:33:54 AM
The Mist isn't a perfect movie, but it's close. With a great cast, a solid story, and pointing out the dangerous impact of religion, The Mist is a lot of fun, also with a great ending that, for some reason, turns some people off. Pretty good movie, and well-worth calling a modern-day classic in the genre.

Horror Talk / Jaws (1975)
August 11, 2019, 01:42:42 AM
I don't love Jaws, but I appreciate the second half of the film. There are some dull portions in this two-hour long film, which I think is what mostly holds it back. Once it's the three main characters on their small ship going after the shark, things really pick up.

What are your thoughts on this classic?

Horror Talk / Sharknado (2013)
August 11, 2019, 01:37:42 AM
Sharknado's definitely not a good movie, but I have found it fun both times I've seen it. It's very much so below average, but if you can have fun with it, then you might be able to get by okay. Special effects are utterly horrible, but it's a Syfy/Asylum flick, so what else would you expect?

What are your thoughts on this rather ridiculous movie?

Horror Talk / Thinner (1996)
August 10, 2019, 03:19:36 PM
Thinner suffers from some acting issues. It's true that Joe Mantegna really helps, but he can't fix the subpar story or the somewhat silly scenes throughout the film. The ending was also hard to really take seriously, despite it being somewhat dark.

What are your thoughts of this film based off a Bachman (Stephen King) novel?
